VAR. - Offsides
Ok so read all over that everyone is unhappy with offsides and the fact your shoulder maybe just in front of the defenders a$$.
Why do we as a football community have to make these things so complicated.
Easiest way to sort offside so there is no argument and it’s fair to everyone is the body part planted to the floor is the main bit that counts ie... your feet that you move with as to be honest if your a$$ or knee is slightly ahead of the defenders your not gaining any real advantage when the ball is played......
They can then draw the line and job done offside or not and you can put that on the big (little it some grounds) screens so fans can see.
Thoughts?

Re: VAR. - Offsides
But where on the foot do you draw the line?
Toe, heal or somewhere in between?
What about a striker with size 11 boots against a defender with size 7s?

No need to try and over complicate is exactly what I am saying so the part of your body on the ground nearest the goal be that foot head back which ever part is on the floor at the time the ball is played these people who are far far far more intelligent that me just need a little bit of common sense.

That is far too sensible. You have to realise these people love the grey area. How else can they influence the result.Texanclaret16 wrote:Ok so read all over that everyone is unhappy with offsides and the fact your shoulder maybe just in front of the defenders a$$.

Re: VAR. - Offsides
Why did the ref blow when Barnes was through (but offside) in the first half? Surely they're supposed to wait until the ball goes dead and let var sort it out?

What about the possible red on Peiters which I have still not seen.
Several posters inline thought it was a certain red.
But as I say not seen it yet.

And rightly so.ElectroClaret wrote:Its just given Palace three points.
I tjough it was a "only flag" if you're certain rule.
That United 1 v Arsenal one on Monday was a joke.
United have win titles based on "erors" and decisions like that.
VAR has been good so far, and none of this stopping and starting the game many thought would happen.
If the correct decision is reached then that's what matters

Re: VAR. - Offsides
That does absolutely nothing to improve the situation. Why does it matter if the foot or the head is the furthest forward?Texanclaret16 wrote:Ok so read all over that everyone is unhappy with offsides and the fact your shoulder maybe just in front of the defenders a$$.

I didn’t think it was 2 footed but he led with and played the ball with his studs, just missing Taylor(I think it was). Some refs would have booked him for it.cricketfieldclarets wrote:And the two footer from Delph at the end.

Re: VAR. - Offsides
Mitrovic was lucky to get away with his equaliser against Charlton. Clearly closest to the goal when the header came forward but drops back for the ball before scoring.
Poor non-call from the lino. With both clubs pushing for the 6 it could be a big call.

Re: VAR. - Offsides
VAR is simple. The player is offside or he isn't. The degree to which he's offside or not, be it millimeteres or more, should make no difference.
If it's visibly on or offside, the decision is clear.
On those very few occasions when it's not possible to distinguish, ie the gap is impossible to detect, then you can't give offside.
The problem we're facing is that a human, **** scared of receiving flak from managers or the media, is not intervening enough.
Pieters almost-broken leg, yesterday, being a case in point. Over the top, studs up, straight red.

Yeah that was my point about “out of control”. As he played the ball I’d say not. If he’d played Charlie first he’d have walked.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Hard to judge from a still. But live it seemed he jumped in.

Two problems. One, TV pictures can't be sure to within 6 inches or so because they don't do 300 frames a second; two, with your rule it means it is literally impossible for the linesman to get it right because no human eye can judge whether one man's shoulder is a millimetre ahead of another man's boot while simultaneously looking to see the exact hundredth of a second when the ball and the boot touch. (Or when the ball leaves contact with the boot, if that is the criterion. That's one aspect of the rule that they still haven't made clear.)evensteadiereddie wrote:VAR is simple. The offside rule ought to be as it is now - if the player is level to normal viewing, then he's onside. If you give the linesman an impossible job, then you are deliberately building in an element of goals being un=celebratable because it can't be judged whether they are legit. Fair enough use VAR to correct it where the lineman is wrong, but it shouldn't be used to make the linesman redundant and become the sole arbiter.
