Turf announcer
To whom it may concern, please stop using the phrase “warm thankyou”. It is nonsense. “Warm welcome” maybe or “big thankyou”.

Re: Turf announcer
I know it is the script and not the announcer - but did they say Dave Thomas was in the 1968 team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1977?

They'd still be saying "thankyou" incorrectly though. It should be "thank you".Whitgord wrote:To whom it may concern, please stop using the phrase “warm thankyou”. It is nonsense. “Warm welcome” maybe or “big thankyou”.

I think it was the announcer as the next words were ‘he joined Everton’. I think he should have paused after ‘cup’ and started a new sentence .’In 1977 he joined Everton’.ClaretTony wrote:I know it is the script and not the announcer - but did they say Dave Thomas was in the 1968 team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1977?

It is confirmed that he cannot read and that the script contains no punctuation.martin_p wrote:I think it was the announcer as the next words were ‘he joined Everton’. I think he should have paused after ‘cup’ and started a new sentence .’In 1977 he joined Everton’.

Re: Turf announcer
The announcer at the Turf is embarrassing, I’m sorry to say.
Re: Turf announcer
All stadium announcers are as embarrassing as ours...
Its their job...
People would complain if they bigged up the opposition
But to make an error like the Dave Thomas announcement is unforgivable......

The PNE announcer that did it years ago was a bit of an arse for it. It all came to a head for Grezzas return there when he rattled through the Burnley team and didn’t give them the chance to acknowledge him
And why is there the need to announce them coming back out for the second half anyway? It’s not like they are doing it unexpectedly.

Re: Turf announcer
It’s not a huge deal, but being a knob about introducing the teams gives us zero advantage and just makes us look a bit pathetic.
The fans should generate an atmosphere as intimidating as they can but anything the club does officially should be based around being a good host.

Was never sacked.... Was only doing PNE a favour, believe several prominent burnley fans complained though, Tony.ClaretTony wrote:The PNE announcer never did it again. He was sacked during the following week.
The story was fans complained he read out away teams too quietly so did the burnley team loud, but very quick... Not even sure Alexander was playing that day, but if he was I can state 100% that wasn't the reason Adam did it.

Re: Turf announcer
Was Grezza’s first appearance back at Deepdale. I thought their local press at the time reported that he’d been dismissed. At the very least he made a complete dick of himself and he was soon gone.Grumps wrote:Was never sacked.... Depends on your outlook, I, and many others thought it was funny, some people take football far too seriously. I can assure you he hasn't let it bother him, personally or professionally, doing far better than most on here.ClaretTony wrote:Was Grezza’s first appearance back at Deepdale. Re: Turf announcer
The PNE announcer is a mate of mine, really good lad. He was never sacked. - EDIT - the person in the article isn't the PNE announcer I know
I have a new respect for announcers though, I once had to step in and do a reserve game. I thought it'll be easy, but it was frightening.
I've worked with a few different announcers, not just at Burnley, but in my other lines of work, like at festivals, awards ceremonies other clubs - and most of the time, they are up their own arses who love the sound of their own voices.
The guys at Burnley though are both great, very professional and down to earth. If you have an issue with their delivery though, just email the club.

Travelling the world, being paid handsomely for it winning national awards for what you're doing, I think is doing a lot better than many on here, I stand to be corrected

Re: Turf announcer
And yet the man in question, Adam Catterall, told the Lancashire Post that he was hurt to hear PNE had received a complaint from a fan accusing him of making fun of disabled people and threatening to report him to the police (at a different game). He said: ""If one person thinks like that, there might be a few more thinking like that. I thought, I don't want to put myself in that situation. All I was doing was having a joke to boost morale."Grumps wrote:It was complaints from some burnley supporters groups that led to PNE, having a word with him, he told them to do one, it might have been reported differently to save face
To add to that he said he'd been threatened while DJing on the Fylde Coast by some Burnley fans. Absolutely no suggestion of any Burnley Supporters Groups.
Preston opted not to comment.
Re: Turf announcer
If you can read between the lines you should gather I know Adam quite well, why you raise the disable fan I've no idea, it's unrelated to the issue being discussed. I can assure you there were complaints from supporters groups. Uriah rennie also complained when he announced... Welcome back to the 2nf half of the Uriah rennie show, iam sure we can relate to that one!!ClaretTony wrote:And yet the man in question, Adam Catterall, told the Lancashire Post that he was hurt to hear PNE had received a complaint from a fan accusing him of making fun of disabled people and threatening to report him to the police (at a different game).
