Pieters injury

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Oct 05, 2019 4:02 pm

Looked a nasty one. And couldnt walk properly at half time but back out for second half. Expect they may target him.

The good news is it's an international break now,so he''ll have extra recovery time, and if needs be Charlie can easily step in to the breach.

Does seem strange he wasn't changed at HT,but i suppose Sean and the physios felt he was OK to continue, just hope it's nothing long-term he's been a valuable outlet this season, and can supply quality service for the strikers to feed on.

I think this will be the full time return for Taylor, which only improves us IMHO.

It sounds like it was an 'iffy' injury which they didn't think was a risk if he continued, otherwise he'd have come off. Taylor was replaced due to an injury so maybe he now comes in due to another. Solid competition between them both though and that's what we want.

I'm comfortable whichever of the duo play on the left, but it looks like Charlie will get the chance to reclaim his place, competition is what we need though.and in the LB slot we certainly have that.

I felt Erik was saying he was fine - hoping it could get thru the second half - and hold on to his place ahead of Charles Taylor.

I'd start Charlie next game - he was getting wide and forward a lot sooner/faster than Pieters. Probably the better of the two for us at left back, though Erik Pieters has provided some game winning assists.

Erik has done well but Charlie proved today why he should be first choice. We have missed his acclerating to get the corner for our goal was what we have been missing. Welcome back CT.

Another Dyche signing who is tough physically. Fair play to him for trying to play on

In my opinion, Taylor is a much better defender than Pieters, he gets out to close down much more quickly. He should start from now on, but it's great to have competition throughout the team.

I can’t believe Pieters came out for second half. He was clearly lame when he walked out. Seemed strange not to sub him straight away when we have such a good alternative in Taylor.

I think so too, but Pieters has done brilliantly well for us Taylor has to keep his place. It could be easily lost.

Really feel for Pieters.

I think shown to be another very very shrewd purchase. He isn’t a complicated player but he plays to the absolute best of his ability and he is very astute at this level.

Find it incredible that he was being overlooked at Stoke.

Pieters really wanted to see it through.

I think he knows that could be his last game!

Coleman should be ashamed.

I thought both of Coleman's yellows could have been a red in themselves.

I disagree as I thought first booking should have been a straight red unintentional or not

Second one a booking was fair

The second as in Coleman on McNeil? Actually it WAS a poor (and utterly stupid) challenge. McNeil heads the ball AGES before Coleman arrives and he still goes and clatters into him. Completely daft and quite dangerous and simply asking for what followed. And he's the bloody captain!!

Pieters has been OK,although Charlie is a different class and McNeil certainly thinks so. We have missed Charlie and Dwights link up play. Great to see Charlie k on 2nd half the fella is a joy to watch, him and Dwight i on fire are top class

Pieters has a better cross than Charlie Taylor, although Taylor helps with our transitional play a hell of a lot more....

Tough to call imo

Pieters has been great so far this season, but me and quite a few around on the Longside thought that the game today changed when Taylor came on. Hope it's not too bad an injury, but we've got that position well covered.

I Wish Pieters all the best, and thank him for what he has done , but wow how much we have missed Charlie this season was totally evident when he came on. Charlies Shirt to lose now.

On another note Jay rod looked composed and a class above Wood and Barnes when he cam on.

Taylor played well. But Coleman got sent off around the time the substitution was made. Obviously a factor.

I would hardly say we’ve missed Charlie this season. It’s good to see him back though and great to have so much depth in a position where we haven’t exactly been blessed over the years.

Second wasn’t much but was always going to get a yellow. However, unintentional or not, the first one could have easily been a straight red.

Youd think with what Coleman has been through, hed be keener than most to time his tackling better.
I haven't seen ot again yet, but the radio on the way home said the first was a clear straight red. They couldn't believe VAR didn't send him off.

It's good to see Charlie back and I too think hell keep his place, but if he never plays another minute, Pieters has been a great signing.

Pieters clearly shouldn't have carried on. I'm sure some of our players must play with injuries at times because they know once they're out of the team it's very hard to get back in.

Dyche will have acted on the advice of the physios and given it was at the end of the first half it made sense to assess the situation at half time. Dyche doesn't have the benefit of hindsight.

Pieters has done well, but a few times in the first half yesterday, McNeill was looking for the overlap from Pieters and he was hanging back. Could have been team instructions, but I didn't notice Taylor doing it when he came on.

They were down to ten men and if course it was their right back who got sent off.

Indeed, but its not just one game, last season McNeill and Taylor were overlapping well and its not something I've seen as frequently with Pieters in the side.

I think Pieters has been good offensively but at times less so defensively. Also first half Everton were the better side.

Can you imagine the rolling around that the likes of Sane would have done had he been chopped like that?

The physios would still be on the pitch trying to stop him spinning

I rate Pieters, genuinely, but I think he was at fault for Villas first last week. Gave their winger far too much space to run into and get that cross in. Nobody's perfect like, and he's still a good 'en.

Given the start to our season and that we're about 1/3 of our way to safety with 8 games played I'm not going to single out any player for criticism.

Nobody's more happy with our start than me. And Sean Dyche kept faith in Pieters by putting him in yesterday's starting 11. His opinion is the one that counts I suppose.

If Ashley Barnes had made the 1st Coleman tackle.....straight red all day long.
However, MOTD pundits happy to discuss that good old Seamus is 'not that kind of player'.

SD has improved the squad
We need to classify 6 or 7 of our players as great squad players who can step in and do a great job-Hart, Pieters, Hendrick, Jay Rod.

If the starting 11 win, unless they have a howler they will keep their place

If Pieters is fit after the International break he will start-quite rightly though Charlie Taylor is the better defender

Its a difficult one, EP done really well, but I felt we were far more of a threat when CT came on.
