Why do Southerners pronounce it drawring?
I just can't fink why!

Same reason some people say 'Fillum' instead of film - they''re thick. It's definitely not just southerners.

The one that really does my nut in is 'Pacific' being said instead of specific.

I've heard 'hospical' a lot - in Manchester.

Refuse - refuge.

I'm a southerner and I never realised I pronounced it 'drawring'. I've just done it and I do!

This may be my excuse:

Anyway, 'it is often used even by highly educated people'.
