soft pens

Post by claretnproud » Sun Oct 06, 2019 12:53 pm

Ok so we all saw the Liverpool pen yesterday.
I really have no idea why attackers who try to manufacture a penalty are not booked or worse. This " I felt a contact so I went down " is just ridiculous.
Problem is that month on month this is getting worse and worse. In fact I bet a decent percentage of the time many actually practice diving in training.
Foreign coaches and players seem to find this more acceptable than your average premier league fan so a question.

Are you happy with the current way that a penalty is awarded or would you like to see EVERY PLAYER who tries to manufacture a penalty booked or even a retrospective punishment ?

Personally I would go a step further. If an attacker clearly tries to manufacture a penalty/free kick then I would let var decide if it was a manufactured situation and if it was then award a pen or free kick to the defending team. This is harsh of course but desperate measures given the way this is going.

No dive for me. Albrighton had his leg into and across Mane’s calf stopping him from striding.
He might have been theatrical but they all are.

Did anyone see that pen won by Millwall yesterday ... definitely a reason for VAR in football and it was right under the Refs nose as well

It doesn't matter, it was against Leeds.

To be honest, the bit about foreign coaches and players is ********. Vardy and Kane are two of the biggest culprits.

no one saying it was a dive as there was contact. Felt contact so made sure he hit the floor to manufacture a pen.

Of course every player trying this on should be punished, retrospectively or in real time. I’m 100% with Dyche in this. It’s one aspect of the game that’s a disgrace and is very easy to stamp out. Why on earth anyone would argue otherwise (or ignore the issue) I don’t know. Banning players is probably enough. VAR referees need to grow a pair as well.

I’m getting really pigged off with how a few fans, posters, tv commentators, etc are all tapping into this ridiculous notion of “there was contact so it’s a foul”.
Yesterday, as I was getting off the bus, an old lady knocked my ankle with her walking stick. The contact was far more severe than that on Mané yesterday but I did NOT fall to the floor clutching my leg rolling around like a big cheating poncey git. And neither did the old lady.

VAR was brought in to overturn penalties like the Liverpool one.
The contact wasn't enough for him to go down, he made sure he went to the floor by diving.

I said all along it would be used to affirm the decisions given to the 'big 6'.

As I see it, the stronger the bans for those who do get caught cheating - the less folk will try to pull off a 'convincing' dive.

For me diving should be viewed at the same level as drug cheats, they're both trying to cheat their fellow professionals and the spectators of the sport. With that in mind, those caught in the likes of the Pires /Ashley Young 'flick a leg out' dive should be met with a six month ban. Managers will be less inclined to tolerate such cheating in exchange for 3 points. Same for those who feign injuries from phantom headbutts and the like.

We have the opportunity to show youngsters that this is not acceptable and the consequences are dire but those in charge instead choose to hide behind the 'drama of the game' and keep their head in the sand.

I've always been of the opinion that if you can stay on your feet you should, that said you can see why some players exaggerate it.

All you can ask for is consistency, so far VAR has been consistently a waste of time. Officialdom has no excuse anymore, but they are still determined to screw it up.
It's time football started telling referees what it expected of them, rather than referees telling football what it expects from clubs.
