Tarky's attitude.

Post by evensteadiereddie » Sun Oct 06, 2019 2:02 pm

Nice to see Tarky not only playing well but, as Mings and Richarlison found out, a lot of attitude too. He's always been the rumbustious type, admittedly, but he seems confident enough to take the pi$$ now and then.
It's not entirely necessary, of course, but it is funny to watch.

Comfortably our best player this season so far.

Love his passion! As long as it doesn't end up with someone getting under his skin which has happened on a couple of occasions and he lost total concentration and it affected his game big time.

Yeah - good to see. But his desire to get into a personal battle with Arnautovic cost us at West Ham last season.

Agreed. That's one example. Another was the fat lad from Lincoln, Rhead.

Both Barton and Tarkowski were sucked into it with Rhead.

Murray at Brighton is another Tarky has had a personal battle with and it nearly cost us.

In fairness a few did get sucked into aggressive, physical stuff with Lincoln, but that only came about after JBG was nothing short of knobbled and the ref missed several other overly aggressive challenges and off the ball stuff. No wonder our lads were getting well and truly wound up!

Tarkowski is far and away our best player and has been by a mile this season so far.

His **** taking on the pitch is fantastic. Must be his last season with us.

Agree with the above. If we'd had a more high profile ref that day Rhead would have walked after the elbow on Joey. Going back to the opening topic I have to say Tarky's attitude is superb.

Yesterday, all four centre halves were excellent.

But Tarks is having a great season and it's ludicrous he's not in the England squad

He’s got better and is very confident . Be a shame when he’s gone next season but we will have done very very well out of him not to mention his sale fee

Glen Murray away at Brighton wasn't his best ever day.

I love it when he tells opposition players to get up when they are play-acting.

I don't like to think it might be his last season with us but I do understand 'top clubs' must be admiring him so to Ben Mee. On another thread a poster said we have probably the best pairing outside of Liverpool I'd agree but I also think we have the best English pairing which makes you ask why they are not Southgates choice. Talksport presenters, Durham being the most vocal are always banging the Burnley drum asking the same question pundits say Dyche sticks to 4, 4, 2 and maybe Ben and Tarks might find it difficult to change I'd say thats rubbish they both exude football sophistication, top lads.

Agreed.

This was as good a wind up exercise as you'll see. The finger wagging made me chuckle.
He will have to be careful though.

With regard to both England and the big-six clubs wanting/taking Tarkowski and perhaps Mee, I wonder (hope?) that Keane's performance since going to Everton are perhaps a factor; he's never looked beyond moderate since moving out of the strictly organised defensive set-up that Burnley employ and that's not the type of stategy that either England or the big-six are likely to want to play.

Our setup is worlds apart from England and absolutely makes our defence look better, but that's also because the England setup isn't based around a defence that defends. Even down to their keeper it's more about ball playing ability and control of possession. Trouble is this only works against teams you can expect to be the dominant side passing it out from the back and pushing up. Even against Kosovo it came undone, but the signs have been there every time we've played a technically strong footballing side from the Netherlands in the Nations League to Croatia or Belgium in the World Cup. If you're up against a technically robust and inventive or pacy team you want defenders who have a bit more steel first and a bit more silk second, which is why a national squad should be a squad rather than a first XI and like for likes.
For all Dyche (sometimes rightly) gets stick for being overly regimented to a framework or game plan Southgate is guilty of it too. If possession dominance doesn't work we have two options- hope for something from a setpiece/penalty or give it to Sterling and hope for the best. Our defenders look better in our framework because the framework favours them sure, and the England framework wouldn't, but the England framework also does not favour playing against teams that can match or better you technically and those are the games our lads would massively improve them in, and also the games you have to win if you want to win tournaments.
