Empty seats yesterday
Empty seats yesterday
Current form is really good and yet there were at least 1000 empty seats yesterday. Hard to understand that.

Hands up, sorry I couldn't make it yesterday but as a season ticket holder would I be counted as being on the game ?
Re: Empty seats yesterday
Yeah non attending season ticket holders are included in the attendance.Aclaret wrote:Hands up, sorry I couldn't make it yesterday but as a season ticket holder would I be counted as being on the game ?

What 1000? Haha.Vino blanco wrote:Loads of Burnley fans over here in Benalmadena on holiday.
I flew back this week from Spain.
What I hear from fellow Clarets who pick their games is that they get seats with poor views and often get wet in either of the two lowers. Perhaps we need another tier on the Bob Lord for better viewing and more comfort. Our current form deserves full houses.

I wouldn't want to watch that game every week, however.

Yep but they dont play Everton every week. Personally I love watching us win and our Keeper and CB's alone are a joy to watch.dougcollins wrote:I wouldn't want to watch that game every week, however.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
We had some blue noses behind us in the JML lower yesterday but they were good value..........spent all match taking the pith commentating on the match, and Pope’s knock it long to Wood........
Then we scored so they went back inside to get more beer to drown their sorrows!

Re: Empty seats yesterday
Think a lot of the fairweather fans have got "used" to Prem football so every game isn't the draw it once way. Just hope we don't become renowned for having a half empty ground eventually. We sell out against the Big Six easily although I wonder how many away fans snap up tickets given how easy it is.
Re: Empty seats yesterday
I would like to understand if the club has a strategic approach to growing the attendance numbers. I'm thinking about creating a brand image that will appear to supporters across the world.

Interesting side note, I work for a Finnish company and over there a couple of times in September. For the first time in 6 years they knew all about Burnley as we played Pukki a few weeks ago.COBBLE wrote:I would like to understand if the club has a strategic approach to growing the attendance numbers. At least 3 of them had plans to go to Norwich before Christmas with +10 friends.
Most of Finland are Norwich fans right now.

According to BBC attendance was 20650 - but as the OP says there seemed to be more empty seats than the figure suggests.

To steal a Man City song.
We've been to Aberdeen
And Istanbul.
Athens as well.
But we still get empty seats, empty seats at home.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
We only got 20,802 against them two seasons ago, which suggests Everton are not as big of a draw as some of the bigger clubs.

I think that was a lunchtime kick off live on Sky.Spijed wrote:We only got 20,802 against them two seasons ago, which suggests Everton are not as big of a draw as some of the bigger clubs.
But the turf is full of Liverpool and Man Utd fans that take their kids on who are Burnley fans because we're in the premier league.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
Attendance for some is not about success or even performance (though it helps) it is about connection to a community - for all football is the global game the best supported team in the world is a college American Football team - Michigan State - no roof and some very poor and cold weather at times

Re: Empty seats yesterday
I think the simple fact is that Football’s not cheap, even with Burnley’s competitive pricing. Folk will pick and choose matches. I don’t have a ST this time around, and missed this one because I was away. I’m not even sure if I’d have attended if I’d have been home.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
I can only remember a couple of 20k crowds in the first 20 years of watching Burnley. Now we average that, so it's not all bad. Give or take a few hundred, when did we last get many more on than we do now?
Re: Empty seats yesterday
30 quid isn't exactly cheap, especially if you have to take the kids and buy them a drink or a hotdog to keep them quiet, turns into an expensive day out.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
I seem to remember when were in the top flight in the mid-seventies the average attendance at home was around 18,000 and that was with much cheaper admission prices.

Interesting, and bear in mind that 2018/19 was Boxing Day so not surprising a sell out or near sell out. As has been said above I always regarded 18k as “a good crowd” watching Burnley in my relative youth.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
Fess up that I am a season ticket holder but get to about 8 home matches a year. Keep it going cos it bumps me up the list when buying tickets for away games. Live a 20 minute train journey to London so get to all the London, South matches (that said went to Villa and going to Leicester).

I live in Crawley and couldn't make Saturday either. The kick off time for the Chelsea game makes it really difficult too....but I'm planning a motorbike weekend...just hoping for reasonable weather.

I was a season ticket holder until last December when I moved to Bangkok. I'm hoping to attend two away games and two homes games next when I'm home in December.

Apparently they count season ticket holders who dont turn up in the official attendance.Sutton-Claret wrote:According to BBC attendance was 20650 - but as the OP says there seemed to be more empty seats than the figure suggests.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
This is the first time in ages I've not had a season ticket. The past few years I found I was missing way too many games due to other commitments, still try and get to a few matches though.

Re: Empty seats yesterday
Would love to watch a game like Saturday's every week. Being able to defend,is an art which the football authorities have done everything humanly possible to destroy .The Clarets defending was superb and their 'seeing the game out' masterful. I don't know why, but I never find winning boring and when Henndrick scored, the only people not dancing up and down were the many Everton fans(JML block6) dressed 'inconspicuously' in plain clothes. Hope MI6 never employ them.
