Yes. But with recent experience.

100%. It will mean we have had a brilliant season. Also those 3 away trips were immense.

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
I'm looking at Champions League. The way the "big 6 are playing" there might not even be a "big two" at the end of the season.
L'pool, Leicester, Wolves, Burnley.... and I'd take it in that order, perhaps....

Fourth place will require too many qualifying games surely?
Re: We're all going on a European Tour
Course we would ffs
But Champions League of course
Lets face facts we had the most difficult route to the group stages last year and we were so bloody close....

Yes, during those 7 years in the 4th division, even talking about it would have been silly. Now it's been a reality and we could only learn from the previous excursion. Group stages though please

Yes, the trips to Aberdeen, Istanbul and Athens were truly immense and most enjoyable, the club and us supporters will be better prepared next time.

Staying in the Premier league and reaping the financial rewards that it brings is the bed rock of a club like ours who don't have wealthy benifactors.cricketfieldclarets wrote:I’d take relegation if it meant a cup win and Europe
Every game I go and watch us play in the Premier league feels like a cup final to me after watching us home and away for 7 seasons in the 4th division. To give this away for a poxy cup and a week or two on the **** in Europe would be selfish and crazy

Call me old fashioned. But seeing us win the FA Cup at Wembley or adding the league cup - the only trophy we haven’t won, would mean far more than seeing us add zeros to a bank balance.Top Claret wrote:Staying in the Premier league and reaping the financial rewards that it brings is the bed rock of a club like ours who don't have wealthy benifactors.

Seeing as we're struggling to sell 1500 tickets for games at Wolves and Leicester I'm not sure everyone agrees with you.Top Claret wrote:Staying in the Premier league and reaping the financial rewards that it brings is the bed rock of a club like ours who don't have wealthy benifactors.

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
I've given some thought to this.
We now have a squad where we can make two teams. I suggest a Premier League team and a cup team (this could be for example Hart, Bardsley, Gibson, Long, Pieters, Drinkwater, Benson, Brady, Lennon, Rodriguez, Vydra). Subs would come from the other team or the rest of the squad.
The problem when we play in cups is that we don't want to damage our chances of Prem survival. Playing a different team in the cup will therefore not interfere with this. If they progress they will learn to become a decent 'team'. They may get good enough to play in some midweek Premier games so relieving the stress on the first team.

From next season there's going to be an extra European place as UEFA are adding a third club competition, to be played on Thursdays alongside the Europa League.

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
It would be nice to go straight in the group stages. It might not be as warm but with peak holiday season over, travel should be far cheaper and you get more time for planning.

The UEFA Europa Conference League is a planned annual football club competition, starting in 2021, by UEFA for eligible European football clubs.[1] Clubs will qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national leagues and cup competitions. It will be the third tier of European club football, after the Champions League and the Europa League.
Re: We're all going on a European Tour
I'm all for it if it improves the chances for clubs like us to play in Europe. Finishing mid-table would be a great achievement for us, but let's face it it doesn't exactly get the blood pumping with excitement.Bosscat wrote:Taken from wikipedia

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
The last time we got in Europe it cost me an absolute fortune and nearly got me a divorce, and we didn't even make the group stages!
This time they better bloody make the group stages and hopefully that will also guarantee the divorce to boot....

In terms of plastic seats, would we have to replace all the wooden seats in the CFS and Bob Lord Stand if we were to get beyond the group stages?

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
Wolves are showing that it can be done with a full team in both.
It obviously takes a bit away from performances but it doesn’t guarantee the drop.
Ask Middlesbrough fans if they remember their 10+ years in the Premier League prior to their decade out (apart from that one brief season back), OR if they remember their League Cup won and European final?
Not striving to achieve due to fear of losing something else is a little bit understandable, but also a little bit pathetic.

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
Seems easily achievable to me, we're already above Spurs and ManU, another slip-up by Man City, then after the six-pointer at the beginning of December we'll be above them too, the one dark cloud on the horizon are Liverpool, so we might have to be realistic and accept that we're not going to be Champions until next season?IanMcL wrote:I fancy the Champions League this time!

Re: We're all going on a European Tour
Absolutely 100% hope we do
But still the the priority is that we get to 40 points as quickly as possible and then see where we are.
be great if we had 30+ by Xmas, so we could give the FA Cup a proper go as well (very unrealistic to have that many but you never know!)

Doesn't improve our chances unfortunately, we will have our Europa League allocation reduced and 1 place in this new competition. I believe it would still mean a top 7 finish or a cup win to get into Europe.jrgbfc wrote:I'm all for it if it improves the chances for clubs like us to play in Europe. Pretty sure I read somewhere every country will get an extra European place. I think the new competition is going to be aimed more at the smaller countries, which means maybe leagues like England will get their extra spot in the Europa league.claretburns wrote:Doesn't improve our chances unfortunately, we will have our Europa League allocation reduced and 1 place in this new competition. Re: We're all going on a European Tour
For this new competition UEFA have said from Nations ranked 1-5 only one place will be given and this will go to the winner of the domestic cup, England have chosen the League Cup winners will receive entry into the new competition, dependent on them not already qualifying for Europe through the league, if so it will go back to league placings for the Europe Qualification.jrgbfc wrote:Pretty sure I read somewhere every country will get an extra European place. However on your point I am sure I read on the UEFA site that again Nations ranked 1-5 will lose a spot in the Europa League and this lost spot will give them a place in this new Conference League.
