Chris Silverwood new England coach

Post by Quickenthetempo » Mon Oct 07, 2019 11:58 am

Not the appointment anyone expected but is highly rated as a bowling coach. He's been working with the England set up a while now so I can't see the clean sweep many hoped for in the Test team.

But Good luck and hope it works out.

All the talk I heard was of Garry Kirsten but I don't think he wanted to work all year round on all the tours.

I was hoping for Gillespie, but I think he enjoys 6 months a year back home.

I did hear Kirsten come to think of it

What no complaints at a Yorkie taking over the coaching of England ;) ;) ;)

It's amazing the lack of competition for these top jobs, Silverwood only moved to coach Essex a few years ago (2015?) and is hardly experienced. It is big jump up for him, I wish him luck.

This stinks to me as a sweetener as there are no English coaches in this new 100 Tournament and the media went mad..Let’s just hope he does have new ideas but I doubt it as he’s already involved with the team..

Absolutely the right option for England: I’m delighted with this and wanted the appointment. Kirsten would’ve been the safe appointment but glad Giles has made this brave decision.

When it's an in house appointment theres always the worry that he'll be too pally with the players and not much will really change.
Although the fact Bairstow got dropped for the NZ tour would suggest it was very much Trevor Bayliss who insisted on him being in the team.

How much difference does the coach make in cricket though?
