BBC Bias
I see that The BBC presenters are now pronouncing it "ampasse". I know from French GCE O Level that this is technically correct but why not carry on with "impasse", as we have done for the last hundred years. Mon dieu!

Re: BBC Bias
I can remember the change in pronunciation of michael schumacher to “ mik-ale -shoe maker” then it went back to the original couple of seasons later . It’s all about whether you pronounce “ in your own language” or attempt some pretentious hybrid pidgin effort ( unless of course your fluent in the given tongue )

Back in the day, I used to enjoy David Pleat’s game attempts to pronounce David Ginola’s name. He was torn between pronouncing the first name in the English manner(like his own) and the French pronunciation. The surname was even more erratic.

Re: BBC Bias
Surely "ampasse" is only technically correct if your are speaking French. Loan words assimilated into English don't keep their original pronunciation; just as well, really, because there is still dispute over how the Romans pronounced their consonants and what the Norse accent sounded like.basil6345789 wrote:I see that The BBC presenters are now pronouncing it "ampasse".
