Re: Joey Barton
Be interesting to find out what really happened that day . I remember lurid reports of the German having his jaw broken and all his teeth knocked out requiring “ extensive dental work” Though it appears the ABH relates to “ a damaged tooth”
No doubt a fracas of sorts took place ,though I’d imagine Joey ( who can come across highly articulate ) will sway the jury .

Re: Joey Barton
A friend of mine is on the Board at Fleetwood. I asked him about this incident in July of this year and he said it had been exaggerated by the media and that there was no more than a minor scuffle between a few of the players. I should see him again on Sunday but I think I'll let him bring it up in conversation this time.Tricky Trevor wrote:Pleads not guilty to ABH at Barnsley magistrates.

Barton’s ability to sway a Jury ( or not) will be the decision of the ..erm Jury, who I’m sure will be presented with all the facts in which to base their judgment .

Re: Joey Barton
Obviously more details to come out, but he’s been charged for allegedly pushing him from behind and that caused Stengel to damage his tooth. Even if he did it, it does sound like a charge they’ve only followed through with because it’s Joey Barton. I’m sure for over 99% of football people they wouldn’t have pursued this. Not excusing Barton (if guilty) by any means.

They don't remember the sexual abuse of youngsters being accepted by society either.

Re: Joey Barton
Sadly it was. From initiation ceremonies to downright groping. Nobody reported it even though you didn’t agree with it. Thankfully now children are taught very young what is and is not acceptable. The trouble being the paedo/bully seems to know which kids they can get away with it. At least we are going in the right direction.fidelcastro wrote:He finds it funny that you thought sexual abuse was once acceptable?

Perhaps they never went in a football or cricket dressing room? Because that's what's being discussedfidelcastro wrote:I've just asked my parents.

It also depends on their definition of sexual abuse

Precisely, accepted by society, but wrong, though iam being abused for bringing it to people's attentionTricky Trevor wrote:Sadly it was. From initiation ceremonies to downright groping. Re: Joey Barton
Sexual abuse of children was never EVER acceptable , you’d think to read some people’s posts that the 70/80’s/90’s were some free for all with n0nces cheerfully warned with a cheeky wink and lascivious grin .
They got away with it in public institutions/clubs etc as there was no proper vetting procedures or even a hint of modern technology /dna or effective reporting and investigation procedures .
Though I can’t deny that the same time period was far more “ gropey” and sexualised towards women in general.

Re: Joey Barton
If it wasn't accepted, why did 1000s of people put up with it without complaint. It was mainly team mates... Having a laugh.... As I've said many times, it was wrong, but it happened, people expected it to happen, hence acceptable. Ask any ex burnley pro of the time, they'll tell tales of dressing room behaviourAlargeClaret wrote:Sexual abuse was never EVER acceptable , you’d think to read some people’s posts that the 70/80’s/90’s were some free for all with n0nces cheerfully warned with a cheeky wink and lascivious grin .

Not as defined then. As defined now. For those who are struggling with this concept, think of homosexuality. Consensual sex has never been illegal. Just depends on what was defined as legal then and now.AlargeClaret wrote:Sexual abuse of children was never EVER acceptable ,.

How Joey Barton's possible misbehaviour, and acknowledged sexual abuse of young footballers can share the same thread (let alone be compared to each other) is beyond me.
Grumps, aren't you missing the point? Sexual abuse has never been acceptable, possibly covered up by authorities for whatever reason, but not acceptable.
Ask the victims.
