Major Road closure
This should be fun.
Accy road closed for 12 months with effect from 4th November
from Rossendale Road to Junction 9/ Network 65 !!!!
The chaos and congestion in this part of the world will be tremendous.

Re: Major Road closure
This is about par for the course these days, no joined up thinking anymore or consideration for the way this will affect everyone living or running a company on this side of town.
I have a distribution company on Rossendale Road Industrial Estate and this is going to cause us huge levels of disruption and is likely to completely gridlock this area of Burnley for large parts of the day.

So how are you to get to the Cremortorium
Re: Major Road closure
Unless I’ve missed it in the article - how will I get to Network 65 from Burnley? Surely not through Padiham into Hapton and then past Bentley Wood Farm?
Re: Major Road closure
May have to park on the road where Freshfields is and walk through the gated entrance unless they open these temporarily and allow people to drive through onto the Cremortorium car park.Chester Perry wrote:So how are you to get to the Cremortorium

Well that’s us relegated then! Taking the same route into the Turf is one of my pre-match superstitions and now it’s buggered. They really haven’t thought the consequences through on this!

It'll be interesting to see what the alternative route will be for the away fans coaches, which usually meet the Police escort on the bridge at junction 9.

Considering the A6068 currently backs up to the M65 roundabout, plus the Gannow Top slip road that is usually blocked onto the M65, at evening rush hour, that'll be interesting with the added traffic pressure.
Car-nage springs to mind.

Simon Bucknall (LCC highways operations manager) and his chums have been screwing up Lancaster traffic for the past few years. Their 'safety grounds' excuse is always a good one to hide behind.

Unless they’re getting there and being escorted to the ground a lot earlier than normal they haven’t been there this season. I come off the M65 at J9 and drive past the away coaches but haven’t seen them this season.Leisure wrote:It'll be interesting to see what the alternative route will be for the away fans coaches, which usually meet the Police escort on the bridge at junction 9.

Re: Major Road closure
It must be possible to at least have one way traffic with a little bit of creativity, with that being from west to east. I can see why a full closure might be needed for a short period.
Re: Major Road closure
They were certainly happening up until last season. The police motorbikes waited on the motorway bridge at J9 for the coaches then took them in via Accrington Road, Rossendale Road and Todmorden Road.ClaretTony wrote:I thought the days of police escorts for coaches were long gone (except for the Burnley v Blackburn games of course)

Re: Major Road closure
To be fair, when they closed the Bridge over the Lune at Lancaster it wasn't as bad as everyone thought it would be.summitclaret wrote:It must be possible to at least have one way traffic with a little bit of creativity, with that being from west to east. But we'd just had the Bay Gateway finished, so loads of pressure had been taken off the city centre already.
Are there any alternative routes around that (apart from M65 obviously!)?

Up until this season they definitely still did it as this is the way I come to the Turf from Darwen. The Police bikes and cars were all parked on the bridge and they used to stop around 4 or 5 coaches there at a time.ClaretTony wrote:I thought the days of police escorts for coaches were long gone (except for the Burnley v Blackburn games of course)
I only said to my son on the way to the Everton game I haven't seen them this season. Not sure if they now don't bother or they have started using the diversion route to get used to it .

Never thought I’d be glad of the move to fighting my way through Preston rush hour traffic, rather than attending Burnley College... I was gutted, but this news is the silver lining. Looks like Burnley will be a twelve month traffic jam.

Yes, but just think how much better things will be around there when it's all finished! No more jams and delays whatever the time of day. It'll be brilliant!!!

I walk down to the ground most games, and I've seen groups of coaches come off at junction 10, head down towards the centre then take a right along Trafalgar Street.
They do however still get an escort away from the ground, usually back to brierfield junction 12 then onto the motorway, as I sometimes see them on my way back as cross windy bridge.
Re: Major Road closure
Maybe they’ve changed the route because they knew the roadworks were coming.MACCA wrote:I walk down to the ground most games, and I've seen groups of coaches come off at junction 10, head down towards the centre then take a right along Trafalgar Street.

Re: Major Road closure
They're never escorted by police though, just queue up with the rest of the traffic.martin_p wrote:Maybe they’ve changed the route because they knew the roadworks were coming.
Although we haven't had what youd describe as any derby or feisty fixtures as yet, that police may deem high risk.
Re: Major Road closure
I cannot believe Burnley council and LANCS cc highways have come up with this plan it’s bonkers and will cause utter chaos. Seems to be Lancashire in particular where the planning and execution of the upgrade of a short stretch of road can cause so many problems. When the San Francisco 8 lane overhead highway was brought down in an earthquake the yanks rebuilt it in 8 weeks!!

Re: Major Road closure
Always seemed a bit of an overkill, particularly when we were in the Championship. You'd get a couple of minibuses from Reading or QPR sat on that bridge waiting for an escort off a dozen cops, bikes, vans.. lights flashing all the way up Rossendale Road and down Tod Road.
Never really saw the point of that, nobody cared. At least they seem to have binned it off now.

I would assume that all affected businesses and residents have been informed of all the arrangements and how
they are to be affected, but I wouldn't bank on it.
Good luck to all concerned.

There are houses on that stretch of road, as well as the skip business and used car dealership, no way can they fully close the road.

I would guess that 80% (maybe more) of the Burnley residents that work on Network 65 and the new Burnley Bridge site use that section of Accrington Rd to get to work on a daily basis.
The diversion through Hapton etc is around 6 miles in total.
To be honest, the only time congestion there is a real issue is when there are roadworks. Other than that it takes a matter of minutes to get from one end to the other.
Seems utterly needless and ill thought out.

That is a bloody disgrace. Apart from incompetence on behalf of highway authority, I can only
assume that the Burnley Express have somehow got it wrong.

Re: Major Road closure
Sounds like it may be a culvert replacement, possibly for Molly Brook.
I would think that road closure boards and signage will be put up at both the Network 65 roundabout exit and the Rossendale Rd traffic lights but the road will actually only be fully closed for a small part of the length of the road. There will be signs that allow access to properties only

You should go to the press. The fact that all those companies weren't informed is utterly diabolical.

If you are unfortunate enough to have to visit the crematorium during the road closure period,
