Sometimes I take that junction when I’m daydreaming instead of taking junction 10. End up biting the steering wheel when I get caught in the massive queue.

I dread to think what will happen when I do it this time

With the road closed, the only option for you would be to head back to The Hapton Inn, then either down through Hapton or further on to the bypass to head down to the M65 where you can either head to Padiham or join the M65 again to exit at J10 as originally intended.

Written down like that, it seems a blinkin' nightmare. :o :o

EDIT Just realised that you could just head back down the M65 and exit at J8 and get back on the motorway and on to J10 as planned before you had a brain fart. You could also head for Padiham.

Argh, my brain hurts. :D

Getting out of Burnley centre now is completely ridiculous. Leaving the town centre to M65 jnc 10 took 45 minutes at rush hour tonight, I have tried every route but the whole place is on gridlock, the ultimate bottle neck that for the next 51.5 weeks is jnc 10.
The roads have been littered with dreadfully bad drivers, cutting each other up, narrowly missing bumps. Not to mention the road rage that has been going on.

Really cant see any planning from LCC or Highways England... just road shut, end of, get on with it.

Hopefully it persuades more people to use public transport for a year.

I would guess that 80% (maybe more) of the Burnley residents that work on Network 65 and the new Burnley Bridge site use that section of Accrington Rd to get to work on a daily basis.

The diversion through Hapton etc is around 6 miles in total.

To be honest, the only time congestion there is a real issue is when there are roadworks. Other than that it takes a matter of minutes to get from one end to the other.

Seems utterly needless and ill thought out.
It is a desperately needed road widening scheme. Before the Burnley Bridge site came on stream I used to queue on the motorway itself well before junction 9 to come off at that exit. It is an accident waiting to happen now, as the queue is much, much longer.
This scheme was mooted by the local and county council in 2010, but the Rourkes owners were a stumbling block.
Up to now the disruption is not as bad as expected, but it is early days and the road is still partially open just yet.

I disagree, I use the road regularly at peak times. The only time I’ve seen tailbacks to the motorway is when they are having their ‘regular’ roadworks

I must confess that it hasn't yet had the impact on where I live that I thought
it may have. It's been a bit busier but nothing like as I expected.

Maybe when the road is fully closed and people find there way around, it may
get busier, but so far so good for me.

I’ve been using Grane Road instead. It’s certainly increased traffic on there at peak times

Surely the real issue is having single direction junctions on the M65 at junction 9 and, more importantly, junction 11. People have been saying this for decades though. I can’t see how widening the junction to accommodate 4-5 cars extra at the traffic lights will lighten the load down Accy Road, Rossy Road and through the town centre.

As has been posted further up, getting out of Burnley, or just across town, in the morning or from around 3pm onwards until tea time is now up to a 40-45 minute journey.

Can you still use it from the motorway jct towards Burnley, or is it completely closed?

Funny that the week before the closure, coming off at Junction 9 at 8.15 am I was sat on the motorway going nowhere. I used junction 9 for 4 years morning and night and often just carried onto junction 10 in the evening due to the queue.
I must have imagined it all eh?

Do you mean can you come off at J9?

If so you can come off there but can’t turn left towards Burnley only right to Hapton

The road is open but have 4 way temporary lights at Rossy Road junction instead of the normal traffic light

Slightly off topic but does anybody know why there is no westbound access onto the M65 at jct 11 ?

It really does seem silly to me that all westbound traffic out of burnley is forced to go upto gannow

westbound is accrington... blackburn... m61 ..... m6... preston

There is fa going on at present and no need to stop the give way turn towards Accy from Ross road. This would never ever have been allowed when the County Borough of Burnley existed. Get out of Preston and see what you are doing..

Junctions 9 & 11 should never have been built like that with only one way access.

Heads up to all travelling tomorrow. There are roadworks on here now also. Which made for dreadful traffic today added to all the rest of the works going on.

Heads up to any who use that route on matchday.

Walked up Ormerod road faster than any of the cars moved.

May be Burnley council objected at the time of planning thinking it would take trade away from the town centre. I know that was the stance for Colne council resulting in the stupid gridlock at the end of the M65. I don't know anyone who goes near Colne to shop nowerdays - at total mare to get around never mind stop and shop.

Junction 9 could have been done when they built the Burnley Bridge park.

I think one of the major issues is not enough distance from what would be traffic joining at 11 to go West and traffic in the same direction exiting and entering at junction 10.

Motorways regulations at the time (not sure now )were designed for distance and through traffic not local rat runs which would clog up the motorway eg if you could get on at Stoneyholme and exit at the Gannow roundabout at peak times it would back up.

County Councils were the idea of Brussels, to exorcise Britishness out of us and fit with the pan-EU model. Go to youtube and find the half hour film ""Urgent Message" - an eye-opener!

Heads up - the road is now open with access to and from junction 9 on the M65.

Went down it yesterday but the temporary traffic lights were still in operation, so it's still not
the smooth running highway just yet.

Watch this space.

That is a bloody disgrace. Apart from incompetence on behalf of highway authority, I can only
assume that the Burnley Express have somehow got it wrong.

Weird seeing this thread today. I was only thinking about the road yesterday because of a friend's funeral this week. I know when I went to Alan Beecroft's in January the access to the crematorium was via Cemetery Lane off Rossy Road.

Yes, I was at a funeral last Wednesday and the access was via the back. Took a long time to get down Rossendale Rd due to the lights though.
