James Blunt's

Reminds me of that spoilt little moan a child does when they are pretending to cry.

I had a young man from Rishton ring me at 2am once who said and I quote... "I have a lock that needs 'Smithin' please" he sounded p*****d so I told him I wasn't available and gave him "Steve the Locksmith" from Darwens number... about a month later at 2am one Sunday morning the phone went... and a rather similar sounding drunk young mans voice saying he "was from Rishton and needed a lock 'Smithin' ..."houseboy wrote:There you go guys, if you want to be rich get into locksmithery (is that even a word?).
I said had he rung me a month ago and he got very angry calling me all sorts of names....
I was chatting to Steve a while later and mentioned it and he laughed saying this kid was a regular caller after a few beers as he lived in a flat and was always losing his keys or locking them in his flat (Yale style night latch) ....

Re: James Blunt's
I actually like James Blunt - loved Three Wise Men the first time I heard it. Back to Bedlam is a fine album. As (I think) George Michael once said (or at least had an album called) Listen Without Prejudice. And I didn't like George Michael (so why am I quoting him to support my argument?). Anyway James Blount (to give him posh Sunday name) is a fine songwriter.
I'll take cover now.

So anyway Boss what is the act of smithing locks actually called? Locksmithery? So someone asks a locksmith what they do all day and he says (I'm making an assumption there as I have never met or heard of a female locksmith) 'Oh I practice the art of'...what?Bosscat wrote:I had a young man from Rishton ring me at 2am once who said and I quote... I've decided I need to know this and can't be bothered to ask Google so I might as well ask a master (master locksmith).
PS: I bet you would have been considered a danger in the days of the chastity belt.

Re: James Blunt's
Never in the history of music has one man taken such a career kicking for writing one, highly successful, love song.
If he’s not your genre that’s fine but to me he has become an easy target for the media and comedians then others have jumped on the bandwagon.

But as its you Locksmithery isn't actually a word... but it is in an online Thesaurus...
Lock•smith (ˈlɒkˌsmɪθ)
n.
a person who makes or repairs locks and keys.
[1200–50]
lock′smith`er•y, n.
lock′smith`ing, n.
I hope this satisfies your curiosity...
Chastity belts are notoriously easy to open ... however

Re: James Blunt's
He's like a lot of songwriters mate (Chris de Burgh comes to mind) who write one rubbish but highly successful song and then become defined by it. Blunt (and de Burgh) are great songwriters and both can really sing (particularly de Burgh) but they are forever tarnished with the success of one pretty awful but highly successful love song. Anyone who has a downer on Blunt listen to Tears and Rain, the weird Out of My mind or the harrowing No Bravery (based on his experiences in Kosovo I believe). These are seriously good songs, beautifully crafted and performed. You might just possibly change your mind (or not - it depends on what you like).Tricky Trevor wrote:Never in the history of music has one man taken such a career kicking for writing one, highly successful, love song.

Nobody's perfect Steve. I loved Bowie (as I know you did) in the 70's and later in his career but the sh!te he was turning out in the 80's was dire (in my opinion). The 'Let's Dance' era was dreadful and that song gets right up my nose. Thankfully he got it out of his system but was never better than his 70's stuff.Steve1956 wrote:Blackpool tower should finish the warbling prick off

Re: James Blunt's
To be fair bud I haven't heard his latest single or indeed anything from him for a while. I think Diamond Dogs was about the time I lost interest in Bowie as well. When I was in the band we only did a few covers (we were attempting with devastating failure to be 'original') but we always did Starman going straight into Suffragette City and those two songs always went down a storm. Ziggy Stardust was a unique and original masterpiece.Steve1956 wrote:Loved Bowie in the 70s Ian, after the Diamond dogs album I lost interest in him,That latest Blunt single makes Bowies lyrics understandable can stand the guy or his voice.

Re: James Blunt's
The voice is a choice. Personally I cannot stand the sound of Madonna (she sounds like Mini Mouse) or Rhianna (dreadful unearthly almost non-human). Many 'great' singers are no more than ordinary outside of the studio. Even the late great Freddie Mercury cheated like f*ck live (he was great but definitely cheated).

Not my cup of tea musically, but he seems like an okay sort of guy.
I'm not sure how he managed to side step claims about the obvious musical similarities between his big hit and the " Lonely Man " theme tune from the Hulk though. Must have been his military training in evasion.

Re: James Blunt's
Most people don't notice it but singers always do. The most common way is when the progression of the song goes up but because the note can't be reached for whatever reason the singer goes down a full octave. If you are good at it (as Freddie was) few will notice. A lot of singers who tour heavily will often 'cheat' to save the wear and tear on the voice, which is understandable.groove wrote:How do they cheat? Voice enhancing drugs?
The best voice enhancing drug is water.

Re: James Blunt's
He's always great on Celebrity Juice as well. I can't understand why people try to get one up on him on Twitter, he's intelligent, witty and has good old army humour. There's nothing wrong with the guy, it's just one of those fashionable fads to dislike him, you know, when sheep can't think for themselves so latch on to something that has been said by others.Bosscat wrote:Just read some this and decided (assuming it was Blunt) I like James Blunt ....
