The most inept sports writer (I use the term loosely) to ever put finger on keyboard (see what I did there in an attempt at modernity?). Do you remember when his 'scoops' about Burnley were published only after all the world and his wife knew about them? And that other one, the woman who was obviously a Rover, who was simply the most inappropriate person to write about Burnley FC.Bosscat wrote:

To be fair, there is more than a grudging admiration for what he says about how Dyche and the team go about their work.

RobH20 used to talk about the fragrant Ms Suzanne Geldard (I think thats her name if my memory serves) with her "discreet" Rovers badge ...
Found apparently she is followed on Twitter by Steve1956
I lost my Bosscat handle on The LT site after accusing them of being the Troll when they didn't ban the "Stocky Blue" handle for IT's disgusting malicious abuse of Myself, GD and others.... had to rejoin with a different email so chose the name "{ Deleted }"

Sounds quite complimentary to me. Recognition of a a tactical approach.

Re: It's official - nobody like us
I find this fannying around at the back (the pretend playing out from the back) with average players really really weird.
A pitch is over 100 yards long and it's not like the 70's when they got a bit of time on the ball.
The tactic must have helped us gain at least 6 points up to now.

It is a recognition of our unique approach, which brings success.
It also recognises that we are the only ones not to have fallen into the trap set by the big time teams.

Its also one of the reasons for our lower posession ratio m8.Bin Ont Turf wrote:I find this fannying around at the back (the pretend playing out from the back) with average players really really weird.

Giving a team posession in their own half of the field while they fanny about at the back

Re: It's official - nobody like us
I still get bemused about why we are bombarded with stats about games. There's only one stat that matters in the end, who scored most goals. Possession stats are meaningless most of the time and are created to make football seem more complicated than it is, it's Americanisation, as in American football and baseball, sports which seem to exist on stats. Remember when we beat Liverpool and they had over 80% possession? They hardly threatened our goal at all so what was the point of all their possession? Still, I suppose it gives Lineker et al something to talk about when analysing a game when a big six team gets beat.
I love it when a losing manager is interviewed and he says 'we did enough to win'. No you bloody didn't, you lost because you failed to score as many as the opposition, end of.

Not strictly on topic but I listen to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast and whilst it's very good they almost never have anything of note to say about us, which I sort of get as to the neutral we're likely not the biggest draw. However this week they somehow managed to cover our win against Everton without mentioning us once, everything was about Silva and the 'crisis' at Goodison Park

Think it was last week they had a bloke on who admitted his forbidden love was for Barnes and Wood as a strike partnership.SammyBoy wrote:Not strictly on topic but I listen to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast and whilst it's very good they almost never have anything of note to say about us, which I sort of get as to the neutral we're likely not the biggest draw. But yeah, they are fairly dismissive of us at times, but only because they have said before just how effective we are at what we do.

Re: It's official - nobody like us
I think with that particular game the media did pretty much the same in general. They are waiting for Silva to be sacked and are hyping it up as much as they can. I must say though that in the past I have read various reports on our games and all they have talked about is some aspect of the opposition. I've even seen reports after we have won and all they have gone on about is the opposition manager (usually foreign) banging on about how crap we are. This criticism of other teams tactics is becoming ridiculous, as we all know, but it just makes them look pretty stupid really.SammyBoy wrote:Not strictly on topic but I listen to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast and whilst it's very good they almost never have anything of note to say about us, which I sort of get as to the neutral we're likely not the biggest draw. Yeah I just roll my eyes now and move on, if being perennially unappreciated means it's less likely somebody will come along and poach SD then I'm fine with thathouseboy wrote:I think with that particular game the media did pretty much the same in general. I actually think the piece is begrudging praise and a celebration of our uniqueness and that of bucking the style of play currently in vogue

Re: It's official - nobody like us
The home game against Norwich was a prime example of how our tactics are so frustrating for the "play through the ranks" teams. Norwch continued to pass out from the back even when we were comfortaby in front. This gave us time to marshall our defenses from the front right through to the back. Opposition fans say they find it boring when really they mean they find it frustrating .Bin Ont Turf wrote:I find this fannying around at the back (the pretend playing out from the back) with average players really really weird.

Re: It's official - nobody like us
There are only a handful of teams that are good enough to play the passing game.
The problem is is that every rich chairman wants their team playing the Man City or Liverpool way. All these managers are just yes men keeping themselves in a job. When they are sacked they manage to get another job by saying "well I want to play the way you do Mr Chairman but at my last job it didnt work because I didnt have the players, this time will be different as your players are better blah blah blah".
Our chairman doesnt care so much for how we play...he cares about results which is how it should be
