For any masochists
BT1@5am has our mauling at QPR from ‘79-80. They needed the extended highlights to get all the goals in. A debut for Billy O’Rourke RIP it would have helped if his teammates had shown up.

Remember the game before, Stevie Kindon telling the reporter he loved it when match of the day tipped up as we always won... famous last words.Tricky Trevor wrote:BT1@5am has our mauling at QPR from ‘79-80. Re: For any masochists
I thought it was implicit that as clarets we WERE masochists!
Therefore you title should simple be "Hey up everyone on here, watch't telly at 5am, you'll right like it"

My Arsenal fan pal came with me to see Burnley, that day.
I never asked him again!

Re: For any masochists
So it was YOUR fault Ian. I've always blamed the players (especially the keeper) which felt a little disloyal of me. So I'm chuffed I can be guilt free whilst pointing the finger at you and your gooner mate for that horrendous performanceIanMcL wrote:My Arsenal fan pal came with me to see Burnley, that day.

Re: For any masochists
We were on tv so rarely in those days as well. These days I’d avoid watching such a horror show, but as an eleven year old who had hardly ever seen his team on tv I stayed up late on a Saturday to ‘enjoy’ seeing my heroes on MOTD. May well have been the first time I saw us on MOTD.

Scott, Thomson, Rodaway, Brennan, Dobson, Noble, James, Fletcher, Kindon decent names on paper but all past their best. O’Rourke not obviously at fault for any of them.

Decent team on paper. Unfortunately they didn’t play the game on paper

I hold him entirely responsible.bfcmik wrote:So it was YOUR fault Ian. I've always blamed the players (especially the keeper) which felt a little disloyal of me. So I'm chuffed I can be guilt free whilst pointing the finger at you and your gooner mate for that horrendous performance

I made my first trip on the overnight train for that one, foolishly thinking you could sleep on the train once it arrived in London.Ended up walking round about 3am. Not a good day all round really.

Scotty was only young, Rodoway too would play for us in the forth division, Ten years (ish) later,James was in his pomp, Dobbo too and Fletch were still on the back end of their prime I’d say.Tricky Trevor wrote:Scott, Thomson, Rodaway, Brennan, Dobson, Noble, James, Fletcher, Kindon decent names on paper but all past their best. Bloody shock result for me I remember watching MOTD in disbelief.
Certainly none of them past there best, just a massive off day.

I have a mate who’s a masochist, he likes a cold shower in the morning............so he has a hot one.

Re: For any masochists
I was eight at the time. I was allowed to stay up to watch. I still haven't worked out which was more upsetting... The program which preceded it called 'death of a princess' in I think Saudi Arabia, or the motd highlights....
