I tend to feel you're (sadly) right and it'll be a rather one sided damp squib, but I desperately hope not!
As mentioned on a previous thread my ex and my eldest son are there supporting their beloved Red Devils and as they've followed them for donkey's years home and away I hope for their sake that Salf get a result.

BTW: It was my ex who told me way back in the late 70's when we first met, that in the early part of the 20th C, Salford undertook a tour of France and the French supporters nicknamed them "Diablo Rouge". The name stuck and they fetched it back home and adopted it as their nickname/emblem. Many years later the name was "appropriated" by their near neighbours from Trafford who also happened to play in red. I assume that's true, but not absolutely certain.

Your Ex wife is right D.C. The thieving Mancs ..lol

"English rugby club Salford had toured France in the 1930s wearing red shirts and became known as "The Red Devils". Busby liked the sound of it, thinking a devil was more intimidating to opponents than angelic babes - and also had to reflect the fact the side would now feature more experienced players."

12-6 Saints. But Salford coming right back into it last ten minutes. Game on!

Somewhat "attritional", but you're dead right, Salford have stormed back really well. I have the sound turned down as the wife is asleep on the sofa, but the disallowed try looked a bit picky!

I don't think so (sadly), but the next score will probably determine the outcome.

Definitely a high tackle penalised there and Saints kick the penalty, but generally dead right. Favouring the "big boys". Nothing changes whatever the sport!!!

Can't say I normally watch rugby league but I thought the refs got help so got everything right?

An underdog can't go against the ref as well as a superior opposition.

Plenty of play acting going on.

But we only see that in football?

Stand to be corrected but only help when they ask for it I think.

As above. The ref has ruined that for me. No doubt Sts deserved win but his inconsistency was atrocious.
He gave a strip tackle to Sts. Correctly when exactly the same happened to Salford he gave a knock on and Sts. went 18-6 up from that set of 6.
The knock on call on Dudson under the posts was ludicrous the St was all over him.
Missed a head high tackle by the St with the jedward hairdo.
There were more but I’m ranted out.

That's the most biased bit of reffing I've seen for years.. The ref might as well have been wearing a Stains shirt.. Well played Salford against 14 Stains players..

Spot on TT. The missed strip in the lead up to the big try was the main one.

Oh well, Saints well deserved after the season they’ve had.

Referee had an excellent 1st half, he went unnoticed, 2nd half had a shocker, might as well have been playing for Saints.

Watched it realising it’s not just football where the refs favour the ‘bigger’ teams! He was appalling especially in key moments in the game.

Oh when the Saints, Oh when the saints go marching in...

Relieved to win as I felt Salford were far more of a threat than Wigan would have been.

Best team this season won by a country mile. League leaders shield and grand final. Should have done treble but these things happen in sport

Saints were the best team on the night, but not by much and it was never particularly comfortable and if the ref had called several key decisions differently (correctly??) then it could have been much closer score wise.

Shed Seven are still great live. I've seen them numerous times over the years.

They play King George's in a few weeks time

Agree the ref gave everything Saints way. The period before half time when Salford played their way back into a game they were hanging on by their fingernails to was gripping. Overall a good game (and yes, Shed Seven were decent before kick off too !) but it felt a bit like watching GB or England play Australia over the years where one team puts up a fight for so long but is eventually worn down by a bigger, more powerful and faster unit. Can't really deny St Helens their moment after the season they've had.

I thought it was a decent game. Salford played well, and yes didn’t get much from the ref. But in saying that, I suspect St Helens had a couple more gears in their locker.
It’s a shame several of the Salford team are now leaving. Jackson Hastings as been tremendous. Will be a big plus for Wigan. But I’m hearing Melbourne Storm are after him for 2021.
Now we move on to see if Great Britain Lions can tackle the Kiwis.

Well done Saints. Let’s hope our new coach continues our domination in the years to come.

Also big miss for Makinson not touring with GB Lions. He did well to play on with that injury.
