Re: England tonight
Nah! i'll swerve tonight WW2 Treasure Hunters is on,no doubt England will romp to victory, probably by 3/4 goals, but Bulgaria are gash,so it won't answer any questions.
I'm curious how many changes GS makes, after that shambles on Friday it should be several, but everyone knows some of the squad are bulletproof,Danny Rose just isn't good enough at this level and is a red card waiting to happen,he's also nearing 30 so isn't going to improve,Declan Rice looks out of his depth, and the CB'S are an accident in waiting, and let's not even mention show-pony Pickford.

You went one further - you created a thread to suggest you won't be watching instead of the people who reply and make the effort to post and say they won't be watching. Fair play!
Sure I'll be watching and looking forward to it. We were poor on Friday, but this is still a much more exciting England set up than under any manager over at least the last 20+ years.

Is Tarkowski & Mee playing? If not why?

Probably something to do with them not being in the squad.

Re: England tonight
I haven’t watched an England game since the Semi-Final, last year. Before that I hadn’t seen one in two years. I only watched the Semi-Final out of morbid curiosity.
International Football is pretty dull.

Reading in our paper about Maddison and him going to a Casino when he "wasn't well enough" to play for his country so pulled himself from the squad ... do these bloody idiots not learn ...... He should be binned immediately from any further involvement in anything England orientated ...... will probably keep up with tonights match on my phone while watching far more preferable stuff like Victoria Coren-Mitchell on 'Only Connect'

Only just read about this on another thread. If true then he's clearly a 5 star dickhead and should be banned for ever playing for England.Bosscat wrote:Reading in our paper about Maddison and him going to a Casino when he "wasn't well enough" to play for his country so pulled himself from the squad ... do these bloody idiots not learn ...... Yes Bosscat; "Only Connect" is far preferable to watching our international footy team. A proper difficult/absorbing quiz show fronted by a delightful presenter.

Despite not being good enough at this level, I still think Michael Keane is a far better defender than Tyrone Mings.FactualFrank wrote:What would be your starting 11?

Bulgaria are utter gash, I’d expect a stroll in the park very comfortable 0-3 type score with the only question being asked “ will we be any good when we play a top European side”

Fourth in the World Cup. Third in the Euro Nations. One defeat in ten years in qualifying. Doesn’t stop the moaners though does it? Probably typical of fans of successful club sides all over the country tbh. Can’t imagine many Liverpool or City fans arsed about England either.

I’m sure Maddison played his chips with his injured leg. There’ll be a photo out there somewhere.
I’ll be watching but not expecting much. Not sure who’s fit but both Chilwell & Cresswell are better LBs than Rose and Charlie will be better than them in 12 months.

Re: England tonight
I'll buck the trend. I'm an England fan and watch them every time they play.
I'm genuinely baffled that Mings is starting a competitive game when Mee and Tarkowski can't even make the squad. I'm obviously biased...but I just can't find a reason based purely on footballing ability for this.
I also find the England midfield options a frustration. For me, Declan Rice is nothing kore than a run of the mill midfielder and I can't for the life of me see why he is so highly rated. Ross Barkley had been England's stand out midfielder for the past few games and he didn't even start on Friday. Instead there was a midfield of Rice (plodder), Henderson (headless chicken) and Mount (a kid who had an ok season in the Championship last year). England have gone from having an embarrassment of riches in midfield for the best part of 30 years to struggling for options of the required ability at this level. Their forwards are very good and frighten the life out of other teams but until they sort the midfield out they will never be genuine contenders for anything major.

Is Mings definitely starting? If so, it shouts out to me that Southgate is once again trying players. Friday was never our strongest side and I don't think it was ever meant to be. I'm all for it. Sure, we lost on Friday, but only the few select knew that before the game kicked off.

In 18 months, from the World Cup semi, we have discarded Walker and Young, Stones is injured and Lingard and Dele Alli have gone to rubbing rags.
The system has been changed, this baffles me as it worked. The replacements are poorer and some regulars are way of normal standard.
Another poor defensive display and Tarks/Mee will get the call. PL performances has to be the over-riding factor.

All journo's are saying Mings starts tonight. The same journo's that were saying Mount would start on Friday. No issue with Southgate trying players out but on what basis does Mings start a competitive game for England when Mee and Tarkowski can't even get in the squad with their ability and experience?FactualFrank wrote:Is Mings definitely starting? I agree it wasn't anywhere near the strongest XI England can put out but, apart from Mount, who would you say he was 'trying' on Friday?

I think we'll play crap and win, although it will ne hard to be worse than the other night. Pick players doing well domestically would be a good start.

It sounds like you think he played our strongest side on Friday, otherwise you wouldn't have asked that question. So for a start both fullbacks aren't our starting ones - he knows that, everybody knows that. He decided to play Trippier instead of TAA (who is arguably the best right back in the world as things stand). Rose instead of Chilwell. Rice is obviously being tested there, so too is Mount.Jakubs Tash wrote:All journo's are saying Mings starts tonight. The same journo's that were saying Mount would start on Friday. If the players that have come through the U17’s and U20’s gateways keep failing, Gareth is just going to gave to play talented players that gave been performing well against some of the World’s best players in the Premier League for a couple of seasons.

How does it sound like I thought it was our strongest side? Does the quote, "I agree it wasn't anywhere near the strongest XI England can put out" not give this away?FactualFrank wrote:It sounds like you think he played our strongest side on Friday, otherwise you wouldn't have asked that question. I agree that Chilwell is the better option at LB. Danny Rose has 29 senior caps so not sure Southgate would need to be 'trying' him out at LB. Rice has played the last 6 internationals too.... Is he still going to be trying him out in his 10th game or 15th game?
Mount was the only player who hadn't started for the seniors.

at the risk of sounding boring as I have said this before. The great german teams of old had half the bayern munich team in them. It has to be an advantage to have club team mates playing at international level in their countries team. Pope,Mee and Tarks HAVE GOT TO BE WORTH A TRY as our last line of defence.... but its too simple for Southgate who likes to promote himself as clever. SIMPLE IS BRILLIANT so open your eyes Southgate ffs.

Well we have shown that we need more than 2 central defenders. Keane, Maguire and Stones just aren't good enough in a pairing. I'd give Gomez a game. He can't do any worse.Goobs wrote:Was more just a general eleven rather than specifically for tonight as some of them aren't in the squad.

Southgate is clearly trying to send the message that he wants you to be playing regularly for your club side. But if the likes of Gomez and Foden are sitting out and the players playing ahead of them are inferior is it the right move?
I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and just bring Foden into the squad now, he's probably going to be a key man for the next 10 years, just get him in there. More worthwhile than picking someone like Delph, who is probably gonna be injured anyway.

Re: England tonight
Think the way City and England are handling Foden is spot on personally.
GS has pretty much said that whilst Pickford is fit he will be number 1 as he can play out from the back better than Pope, but that Pope was an excellent keeper who doesn't concede many goals or soft goals.
Seems strange to me to prefer a keeper who you think is more likely to concede but maybe that's just me.
