Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Thank goodness for the emergence of McNeil as none of our other Wide men can seem to string half a dozen games together for the past couple if seasons.
Think it'll be ( or should be ) the number 1 position along with CM that we look at strengthening in January

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Must be serious if Dyche has come out and said weeks. He normally tries to play injuries down.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Think the club should have control and over when a player is available to play for their country if they haven’t been back long after injury.

Aston Villa at home New Years Day will be my prediction. This injury is bad news.

Agreed. Lennon isn't the long term answer and JBG can't seem to string 3 games together over the last 12 months.MACCA wrote:Thank goodness for the emergence of McNeil as none of our other Wide men can seem to string half a dozen games together for the past couple if seasons.

I would hope (although I won't be holding my breath) we would look to spend a couple of quite substantial fees on the RM and CM positions if the right players are available.
It's an opportunity for Brady to get more game time though.... Hopefully he can stay fit!!

Looks like we could soon be approaching the time when we find out whether bringing Drinkwater to the club was sensible / wise / vital or not.
One more injury in these areas, and we'll definitely need him - once available for selection.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Well, Robbie Brady was our starter before he went down with injury a few years ago. Certainly is talented enough and I think he will be able to step in.
Lennon provides cover as well.
Will be interesting to see what we do in January. We should know more what JBG and Cork will be able to do for the rest of the year.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
To be fair both Brady & Lennon have really had just one injury each although Brady, like so many players after a long injury, got a good few niggles. But he’s been fit for months now, apart from the rib, just can’t get in because of McNeil.MACCA wrote:Thank goodness for the emergence of McNeil as none of our other Wide men can seem to string half a dozen games together for the past couple if seasons.

But JBG seems to get one injury after another.

JBG is a 'lefty' strictly speaking. Wonder if Brady could be as good at playing on the right? Think old Seany will have to do some re-shuffling this weekend and for the foreseeable. Think our squad is definitely in need of a refresh in January. Hope that JBG's lay off isn't too long, he is one of our most gifted players.CnBtruntru wrote:Could be playing with two lefties shortly

Brady played a lot on the right before he signed for us. Hasn’t done so much since we signed him.houseboy wrote:JBG is a 'lefty' strictly speaking. Your asking the gaffer to play 4-3-3. Good luck with that one. I personally agree it could be worth trying but Dyche changes things as slowly as a glacier.kaptin1 wrote:Use J-Rod as a wide midfielder or play him in a 4-3-3

Could be worth a try. Maybe Brady himself might think it's a good idea as it would definitely be a way back into the team. The guy has enough skill so why not give it a try I suppose. I just can't see Dyche doing it but, as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures.ClaretTony wrote:Brady played a lot on the right before he signed for us. I remember Dyche bringing him on as a sub at Anfield and playing him on the right. Dyche got dogs abuse on here for playing him out of position.houseboy wrote:Could be worth a try. We used that formation in the second half at Aston Villa.houseboy wrote:Your asking the gaffer to play 4-3-3. Good luck with that one. I personally agree it could be worth trying but Dyche changes things as slowly as a glacier.

I don't know, Dyche isn't completely against using wingers on the "wrong" side. Lennon has played on the left a bit for us. With the emergence of McNeil it's probably the only way Brady is going to get a chance.houseboy wrote:Could be worth a try. Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
I assume Lennon will get the nod but it could be interesting to have McNeil and Brady both playing and switching sides throughout giving each a chance to come in from the right and have a shot, as they are both capable of decent strikes and allows for Lennon to come on later and use his pace if needed.
Personal preference would be for Hendrick to go right midfield if we have another fit CM.
4-3-3 has been used recently so is an option although not one I think we would intend to start with, especially at somewhere like Leicester.

Should sharpen a few minds going in to the next transfer window, not his fault he keeps getting injured but he doesn't play enough
Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Anybody but Lennon for me. Assuming cork is out I would go Pope Lowton tarks Mee Taylor
Brady Hendrick Westwood McNeil
Barnes/ JRod Wood
Wonder how Vydra would work playing the JGB role ?

I doubt many are surprised at this. But as mentioned, we (once again) have to try and improve in central midfield and on the right.

It wouldn't. He is a centre forward

He played mainly behind the strikers at Derby but not in a wide role. Although I seem to remember him playing wide midfield v England or maybe I am wrong.Local cricketer wrote:It wouldn't. He is a centre forward

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
I'm all for making as few changes as possible.
Pope
Lowton Tarkowski Mee Taylor
Lennon Hendrick Westwood McNeil
Wood Barnes
I'd be putting mainly defenders on the bench, So Brady, Rodrguez Bardsley Long Gibson Pieters (if fit) Hart

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
Minimum disruption is the key, when they have been playing well.
The news that Cork & Barnes are doubts throws a spanner in the works.
If they don’t make it I’d be looking at:
Pope
Lowton..Tarks..Mee..Taylor
McNeil..Westy..Hendrick..Brady
Wood..JRod
For those who can’t see Dwight on the right, he started the second half for U21s at RCM. He can play anywhere.

Can't remember the last game we played well in/got a result from that Lennon started.
Hopefully Brady is fit and gets the start.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
McNeil played out right for England the other night and in the times he did get the ball (very Seldom) he did ok. However i would prefer Hendrick on the Right, Brady on the Left and McNeil in CM.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG out for weeks
This is where the depth of the current squad will be tested. I think we have one of the strongest squads we've ever had at the moment and I feel that we have cover in most positions. The logical choice would be to bring in Lennon on the right and keep Jeff in RM. Keeps the balance to the side and I feel that Lowton will have a touch more cover with Lennon in the side. SD will go with minimum disruption to the style we play so don't expect anything too radical, especially when we are away to one of the form teams in the league at present.

Dyche will get abuse on here whatever happens mate. The problem seems to be sometimes he will experiment but then persists even when it is patently not working (Hendrick at number 10?). But then JBG being 'out of position' DOES work, amazingly well. I personally think Brady should be given a try, if it isn't working we have Lennon.ClaretTony wrote:I remember Dyche bringing him on as a sub at Anfield and playing him on the right.
