The last time that Boris involved himself with the buses (London Route Master) it ended up costing the London taxpayer hundreds of millions of pounds (plus many more millions lost to TFL in fare evasion, due to Boris's insistence that the buses have entrances and exits at the middle and rear of the bus).

BoJo still talking about the Scotland/NI bridge. Please god no. He couldn’t even get a stable bridge over the Thames. They are already estimating £60b and as we all know these projects sky rocket from the initial figure.

But what is rarely seen are the reports afterwards that 90% of these projects come in within 5% of the original budget cost. It is the escalating 'contingency costs' that drive up the projected price that are widely reported by the media. Their reporters/editors often seem to add 10% to costings to make it a better story

Trains were invented before the motor car, aircraft and computers. Why are they suddenly the future?

So happy that 1% of people in Leeds station will get to London 15 minutes quicker, whilst the other 99% of us will be held up even more than we are now waiting for the HS2 trains to move in and out.

They're building a new station at Leeds aren't they? So if someone wants to get from Skipton, for example, to London they'll not only have to change train but also change station. I think Birmingham is the same.

Well they're building a new platform ('0') and 'untangling' the tracks - whatever that means.

Don't know about a new station.

At the moment you can travel from Skipton to London without changing train.

Vanity project that will end up being outsourced to a foreign franchise and provide little if any benefit to commuters.

West to East up and down the country might help make thousands of commuters life better.

As for the cost so far, no doubt a bit of nepotism has secured the future of a few families for their next generation or two.

I went on the Maglev train in Shanghai .

I think that style of train from say Preston to Burnley, Burnley to Leeds etc would be far better.

It was stupid quick.

To be fair to Johnson they had less fare evasion than the buses that they replaced (the terrible bendy buses).

They do have way higher fare evasion than all the other cheaper buses though. TFL are bringing in new rules to combat it this year, people will only be able to board at the front, the same as all of the other buses.

I think a lot of people don't realise how much work has already been done for HS2. The building work started a couple of years ago. There have been countless buildings demolished and hundreds of workers involved just in London.
