The United Kingdom
Scotland, Wales and Ireland constantly making threats, blocking deals, wanting to overthrow elected governments. I’m beginning to think let the UK split.
I’m proud to be (a) Lancastrian (b) English (c) European (d) a member of the World. The UK or Great Britain or Commonwealth mean nothing to me.
Should we ditch the moaners and leave them to survive by themselves?

It won't be long before Scotland has gone LCP
Re: The United Kingdom
I say let’s go to war against the “Scotch” and after victory change the name of the region to Really North.
Then do same to Welsh and Oirish.
After they are done turn our attention to France.

Re: The United Kingdom
I’m all for erecting large border fences and charging them to come into England to work or visit. It’s just the constant complaining that’s annoyed me. Like we English are terrible people.

Proud to be a member of the World, but Britain and 52 Commonwealth countries from around the globe mean nothing to him.

When Scotland leave the Union I fear we could get years of one party Government and that would be bad for us. I cannot think of any other problems apart from maybe abandoning our nuclear weapons. Will cost a few bob to relocate from Faslane but that will create more jobs in England.
NI I am sure will also become part of a United Ireland eventually. As I think about 85% of the UK population lives in England and Wales I don't think we will suffer unduly from the break up. I hope Scotland will be OK and as part of the European Union it will be a net receiver of funds I imagine but in the Euro and if it thinks having to cow tow to London is bad, wait until it has to do as Germany says with its Economic policies

dangerous ground, once not long ago, you probably didn't mind the welsh, irish or scots. we were just a british isles mix, quite matey and with a long history of being in everything together including world wars. Nowadays it is clearly becoming us and them, with more than a touch of nastiness chucked in.LoveCurryPies wrote:Scotland, Wales and Ireland constantly making threats, blocking deals, wanting to overthrow elected governments. How insular do we all want to be? Lancashire is a strange thing to take pride in when you can so easily bin off entire nations and their people.

Surely we would refer to Scotland as Beyond the Wall, We then need to empty the prisons into something we could call the Night’s Watch. Job done.Bosscat wrote:

The Romans built two walls. Hadrians and further north the Antonine wall which ran from the Forth to the Clyde rivers.Bosscat wrote:

Neither has kept the Scots at bay.

No I’m not insular. I really like being part of the bigger picture...European or occupant of planet Earth.Wile E Coyote wrote:dangerous ground, once not long ago, you probably didn't mind the welsh, irish or scots. we were just a british isles mix, quite matey and with a long history of being in everything together including world wars. I don’t have a problem with Scottish, Irish or Welsh people but I am tired of their politician’s moaning and threatening to walk off into independence.

The Wildlings and Whitewalkers in fact why not turn Scotland into a giant prison and just shove all the undesirables "Beyond the Wall"andyh wrote:Surely we would refer to Scotland as Beyond the Wall, We then need to empty the prisons into something we could call the Night’s Watch. Job done.

Why would the EU allow any new country to come in and take money out of the pot. A big hole will occur in about 5 years with the UK money dried up.mdd2 wrote:When Scotland leave the Union I fear we could get years of one party Government and that would be bad for us. Re: The United Kingdom
Northern towns like Burnley have benefited for decades by having left wing politics stand up against the southern rich elite and we have had far more in common with places like Scotland and Wales than we have with the home counties
You may be well off and financially secure but if the union splits lets see how northern working class towns and the poorer people are treated by a Tory party that doesn't have to care one iota about winning their votes to stay in power

Re: The United Kingdom
so you find them tarnished by their politicians in essence, you can lump them all together, and be done with them, based on their poor political leaders.LoveCurryPies wrote:No I’m not insular. I really like being part of the bigger picture...European or occupant of planet Earth.

Whereas the english have clearly nothing to divide them !
you must be joking, referendum chaos, changes of unelected prime ministers, north south divide the list is endless, but you can happily align your views with this putrid mess.

Re: The United Kingdom
Who knows? If we were independent nations then each independent nation could decide whether to have a border. They could also decide whether they want to allow people from the other nations to come and live/work in their country.LoveCurryPies wrote:If we were 4 independent countries, would we need borders?

In this age of being able to travel the world so freely and live amongst people from all different cultures and walks of life I find it a bit grim that so many people want to shut themselves up in their little bubble. Why the desire to sever ties with countries who we’ve had a good relationships with and mutually benefited from for a long time?

I’m happy being English, happy with our neighbours and European friends. I’m just really fed up of listening to Scottish, Welsh and Irish politicians making their threats. If they really feel like that then go for independence.Rileybobs wrote:Who knows? If we were independent nations then each independent nation could decide whether to have a border. Will be interesting to see if they can still afford free university education.
Re: The United Kingdom
As long as we all got along, independance could be a good thing, we could even hand the Scots the town of Blackpool as a goodwill gesture.

Re: The United Kingdom
Sadly that is the way the world seems to be going of late, be it the UK's Brexit, Trumps much vaunted wall or indeed the Asian & African migrants being blocked from entering Europe; Australia & NZ too appear increasingly reluctant to admit immigrants, most particularly those from SE Asia. After a 60 - 70 year period of what I heard best described 'drawbridge down', we seem to be entering an age of 'drawbridge up'; history already shows us that this is not a good long term policy, but given the way in which the world has changed so radically since that last drawbridge up era, I fear that in the 21st century, it'll prove even more disastrous. Over the last few millenia we've gone through periods of loyalty at whatever cost to family, then tribe, region, state and latterly unions of states, forced not least by increasing population, dwindling resources and improved travel and communications; trying to go backwards just won't work.Rileybobs wrote:...each independent nation could decide whether...they want to allow people from the other nations to come and live/work in their country.

As always there's a silver lining or two: The 'end of the world' is certainly not upon us, we're just approaching the point where it'll no longer be survivable for homo-sapiens, at least not in vast numbers; not so clever for mankind perhaps, but no bad thing for the planet. More importantly, provided that BFC can retain their current Directors and manager for the next few millenia, we should be a shoe-in for winning the Armageddon Cup Final.
