Tall Paul wrote:Every goal is reviewed by VAR so Evans' protestations had nothing to do with it.
They had nothing to do with it being reviewed but had everything to do with the final decision. Of course the VAR ref is going to be more likely to disallow the goal if there's protests. Just the same as the referee on the pitch and just the same as the 4th official which managers always complain too on the touchline. (Dyche is good at this)

Of course given what happened everyone is going to come out and say they hate VAR. Wasn't the case when it worked in our favour against Villa.

Shocking decisions have happened before, VAR may not be perfect but with time and improvements it will get better. It can only help in the long run having several people review a decision rather than one which is very much how it works in other sports, like motor racing.

As they keep saying, it needs time.

The fan experience needs updating, with screens showing what's going on so fans in the stadium aren't left not knowing what's going on. Replays, together with text and possibly the referees with mics like in Rugby will help with that.

I liked that the team didn't let their head drop, but what I would have liked to see is more protesting on our part, can you imagine a decision like that going against one of the big teams?

Time to sort out operator errors.

Does anyone know if we actually have it turned on at TM?

Villa fans clearly love it, most the singing today has been about it

For those not watching the game the song goes something like F*** VAR repeated over and over while the check is on think that’s one way of voting for it

This is a bizarre incident in the German 2nd division on Friday.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50196446

How it was deemed to be a spot-kick i'm bemused by,i can understand awarding a free-kick in those circumstances.but a pen :?

Subs beware it seems.

Been away on holiday for a week so only just seen the Wood disallowed goal v Leicester on MOTD, if that's a foul worthy of disallowing a goal for then how come Vardy's on Mee for their opener isn't?

It may get better but the way it is being used at the moment, VAR is worse than relying on the onfield officials to get it right, especially as it's eroding the instant joy for the fans of their team scoring a goal as there's now always the chance it will be ruled out for some unseen technicality.

This could all be cleared up if we had VAR for the VAR. Only for clear and obvious mistakes by the VAR though.

Don't warm up behind the goal, and your law write-up explains that must either be a direct free-kick or penalty, so as it happened in the area, it can only be a penalty.

Thanks now it makes sense,i guess he won't be interfering in play from behind the goalline in future,a lesson learnt, fortunately for him and his team they went on to win,so can probably make light of this episode.

It really was officialdom gone mad! Common sense should have been used because the ball was almost over the line, no opponent was close to it and it was a goal kick. The player was not trying to do anything except return the ball so that the kick could be taken.
VAR had no need whatsover to get involved, however, this is the way that the game is going so enjoy it! ;)

Strictly by the letter of the law the ref was correct, but if this happened at a PL ground it would cause uproar, common sense left the game long ago i'm afraid, everything is done by the book now,far too many jobsworths, but this is because the officials are terrified of big brother watching.

Before reading of this incident i wasn't even aware of this rule existing,it does seem heavy-handed,you'd have thought a quiet word would have sufficed.

And it's perfectly possible post-VAR that's what would have happened, but now every action is subject to a 2nd viewing.

All i can say to close is if they have VAR in the German 2nd tier they must be awash with money over there.

As someone who was all for it and defended it early doors........

Yes, it's time to get shut.

It's quite clear that it's not going to be used correctly and it's getting really really f***ing boring.

I wouldn’t get rid of it but I would restrict its use to offsides and mistaken identity. Even for offsides they need to recognise the limitations of the technology and let any where you’re measuring in mms be ‘linesman’s call’ like they do with LBWs in cricket.

we have all had decades of football without VAR, and the game just became more and more popular, now this nonsense is in place, it is a lot more than troublesome.
This isnt about teething problems, its a daft mix of technology and inept officials combining to frustrate fans at live events.
I hate it, get rid ASAP.

Who ever gave Mutd 2 VAR penalties, when neither was a pen, should be jailed for fraud!

Scandalous decisions. Criminal!

Not to mention Arsenal being deprived of their winner.

Dreadful obviously not used to watching TV!

Haha - I actually thought both United pens were pens according to the laws of the game.

I thought Tim Krull was off his line before that first spot kick and maybe for the second. Where was VAR with those?

Probably thinking that when they have given MUtd 2 massive gifts from the prem League rule book (our top 6 must be aided as necessary), that the rest is up to the gods - unless it becomes essential to preserve their status.

Put the glass down Sir Alex.

The first one the United player actually barges into the defender.
