If var is to stay ?
How about the official has to publicaly explain his/her decision?
Surely the person today will be embarassed if watching motd with family later tonight.
Can you imagine his little son or daughter saying to him/her
"what did you do at work today dad"
"watch match of the day son/daughter"
words fail me on this one.

Never understood the clamour to get refs to publically explain their decisions. How will that lead to them getting more decisions right?

There’s been calls for referees to do that for years
Re: If var is to stay ?
I seem to remember they brought it in briefly and interviewers asked them stupid things like how does it feel that your decision could cost this team the title/relegation so it was soon scrapped.wilks_bfc wrote:Will never happen.

Re: If var is to stay ?
VAR is here to stay and will soon be used for every single decision, throw ins, corners etc. The media love it as it causes controversy, big city clubs live it as it favours them. Get used to it.
Re: If var is to stay ?
They now have goal-line technology, the ball and the players are all GPS located and so is the speed and trajectory of the ball, as such it is possible to work out on a computer if the defender could have swung a leg and cleared the ball had there been no contact.
It's not a decision for a human to make, it's cut and died mathematically and on record, that incident is on a computer somewhere.

Rugby union shows the discussion between the referee and the control room
The fact that they remain anonymous makes them less responsible

Re: If var is to stay ?
Var is great for us.....
So far this season from memory we have....
Wolves pen. Not overturned. Against us and stands
Ashley Barnes poleaxed. Non pen not overturned. Against us and stands.
Today’s fiasco. For us and gets overturned.
Coleman. Red card not given first half. Against us and stands.
There’s probably more but that’s 4 that I can think of for starters. Every decision has gone against us on VAR review.
Have we had any in our favour yet???smells a bit fishy to me

Do you have to publicly announce why you did what you did at work?claretnproud wrote:seriously, you think they should be able to carry on with this garbage without substatanciating their decisions???/ When I go to work I am fully accountable for my work so make sure its good work.

self employed and if I was as incompetant as these clowns I would be unemployed.

Villa and Arsenal both had goals disallowed against us.Hibsclaret wrote:Var is great for us.....

Re: If var is to stay ?
The point is, the referee and his assistants are accountable and have to answer to their bosses. Answering to the public doesn't solve anything. And I totally agree that the standard of refereeing in this country is poor, but they're supposedly the best we have.claretnproud wrote:my work speaks for itself

Re: If var is to stay ?
They were both offside. Offside is the one thing they can’t be biased about. It either is or it isn’t....Tall Paul wrote:Villa and Arsenal both had goals disallowed against us.
Anything subjective seems to go against us for some reason....

its the subjective stuff thats hurting us. Wolves pen, today etc etc. Its still the opinion of clowns. You can have a billion dollar computer thats useless if operated by an idiot. These decisions must be fully explained then over a period of time it can be decided whether var is staying or going.
Re: If var is to stay ?
Until today everything subjective has been deferred to the referee's original decision, not just for us, for the entire PL. That's why I think they've been talking over the international break.Hibsclaret wrote:They were both offside. Offside is the one thing they can’t be biased about. It either is or it isn’t....

But then there was the one in the City game that looked more if a foul than Wood's that has thrown that theory out of the window.

Re: If var is to stay ?
I’d naively hoped that VAR would help us, but the interpretation can still be twisted any which way. Against Wolves, it’s deemed not to be a “clear and obvious” error, yet today, presumably, it was. I just can’t work that out. We used to beg for consistency across refereeing decisions, but the inconsistencies are more stark than ever.claretnproud wrote: agreed

Re: If var is to stay ?
It was going to save football.
It hasn’t, and it won’t as long as we have the two decisions that we had today.
Whatever happened between Evans and Wood today simply wouldn’t have been discussed had it been outside the area and not resulted in a goal. A fouls a foul regardless of where it happened and Evans falling over his own feet SURELY can’t be regarded as a foul, even if Woods little finger touched him in any way!
Even MOTD pundits can’t argue this was right.
