Is Dyche a future England manager?
Simple question.
Personally, I believe that football snobbery regarding style of play will prevent him being manager of the national team.
Not every club will think like that though, so it's always in the back of my mind that he may go elsewhere.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
He will eventually. I think you’re right, the perceptions about his style might stop him getting a top job. But maybe a different challenge at a club with looser purse strings might allow him to play a different style. So he may take a sideways step in order to do that. Unless of course he thinks he can do it here over time.fidelcastro wrote:Simple question.

He's more likely to become Scotland manager.

National manager is a step down from managing a Premier League club so I would say his ambition will be to manage a better club side than Burnley next and later down the line when he's dropped off a bit he's every chance of getting the job and more importantly wanting to give it a go

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
If they want an English manager, they'll go for Eddie first as he fits the "mould" better.
Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
To be honest with the players available, we could do with a Dyche type, we tried Allerdyce, but that was cut short.
If we get the defence sorted, I think any manager could get us to the quaters/semis with their eyes closed.
We're great offensively, defence could be sorted with some structure and actually picking the best players.

I can't imagine SD taking any sort of knock out competition seriously.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
First off no because he doesn't 'fit'. Secondly if Southgate carries on the way he is unless he gets bored and leaves the job I can see him being in place for years. He's doing a fantastic job and could be still at it until Dyche has retired. Lastly Dyche has not had the opportunity yet to prove he can handle huge egos, to do that he would have to manage a much bigger, richer club than ours and that is not too likely because of style snobbery.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
I was only thinking last time England played that we could do with Dyche at England as defensive coach. As you say if we could sort that out we could really think about winning stuff.MACCA wrote:To be honest with the players available, we could do with a Dyche type, we tried Allerdyce, but that was cut short.

If they stick with appointing an English man then he'll have a good shout, although still some way behind Howe for now.
Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
Not unless he manages a much bigger club than ours first and is successful.

Lampard is the next one.

How is managing England a step down when you’re potentially challenging for the most coveted prize in football? Or have you done me on the wind up?Devils_Advocate wrote:National manager is a step down from managing a Premier League club so I would say his ambition will be to manage a better club side than Burnley next and later down the line when he's dropped off a bit he's every chance of getting the job and more importantly wanting to give it a go
Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
Big Sam got his chance when circumstances provided the opening. Sean will probably have to manage at a "bigger," club before however.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
Managing Burnley, Everton or Man Utd is far more challenging (IMO) than managing England. Southgate is doing a great job but I doubt he would last long in a top club job.LTUK89 wrote:How is managing England a step down when you’re potentially challenging for the most coveted prize in football? Building a squad, pressure to win week after week and winning domestic and European leagues and cups needs far more skill then gliding through an easy qualification process and having 6 weeks of real competition every two years.
If Dyche got offered the Man Utd, Arsenal or Spurs job alongside the England job this summer I am 99% the England job would be bottom of his list.
Whether thats right or wrong thats just how the game is with all the money and prestige being in the top level of club management

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
Once Brexit kicks in fully and teams can only field 2 non-English players, we'll be Champions of England once again
Then, Sean Dyche will earn the credit he deserves and become England Manager.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
What’s all this boll0x about “fit”?
He’s a highly respected English manager who has twice got us promoted playing very good stuff. The fact he sets us up differently in the PL is circumstances. A few more average PL seasons with us and his stock will rise further. He might not follow Southgate into the job but he is a young man yet and in years to come I’m fairly sure he will get an opportunity.

If Sam 'Route One Football' Allardyce can get the job then so can Dyche.
His team doesn't play the current fad in football though so he won't be offered it anytime soon.

And I think the same snobbery is why a very, very big club hasn’t been in for him with all guns blazing.
Their loss is our gain and long may it continue. Happy to have Duché mislabeled as a “long ball merchant” till eternity.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
No, he's a dreadful manager who should not be allowed anywhere near a 'big club, let alone a national team. He is best placed making an unfashionable club a household name again, creating a legacy that will continue for many years, and making himself a big fish in a little pond.
Seriously, if football was like cricket with centrally contracted players, who v.occasionally play for a club, I think he would do well. But with only having players for such a short time, I dont think he would have them long enough to get them playing as one unit.

Who was the last English England manager who had successfully managed a big club?
Not any of the last several
Dyche's credentials will be similar to Alf Ramsey when Burnley win the Premier League

Neither Mr D nor Mr H have an 'England pedigree'. That experience is much liked. Sean has been to Istanbul and Atgens, of course and the white heat of Aberdeen, so you never know!
Frank Lampard will be a major contender.

Not afraid to integrate a lot of young players into the senior squad (building for the future)
Unfortunately for him personally, but fortunate for us, SD does carry a stigma of playing a type of football that is seen by the majority of other club's supporters as negative/long ball
For that reason I can't see him getting the chance at any of the so called big clubs to show whether he could adapt his playing style

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
He'd be perfect for England. Someone to make us overachieve. Find different ways to win. England's problem while I've been alive is a total lack of tactical flexibility and an utter belief that we're far better than we actually are.

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
I think for two reasons he wouldn't be a good choice:
1) His philosophy is built on creating a unified close-knit group with players' characters / personalities / ethics as much a part of the recruitment process as skill level. Dealing with a bunch of overpaid prima donnas may not be his forte (or to his taste!)
2) In tandem with 1), I also believe that Dyche's success is partly built on developing a culture on a day-to-day basis - being around the players every week. Receiving a squad once every blue moon for a few days could prove challenging to his managerial style in terms of preparation.

Before Southgate we hadn't won a knockout game in a tournament since 2006 and since then we'd failed to qualify for one tournament and failed to get out the group phase of another.scouseclaret wrote:Do you really think England have progressed much under Southgate?

Re: Is Dyche a future England manager?
On the basis that I doubt we'll go down the non-English route again then the natural successor to Southgate as things stand would be Howe or Dyche.
However, as has been said no reason why Southgate would move aside anytime soon which allows for someone like Graham Potter to force his way into the reckoning with less of the 'club baggage' of the other contenders.
