PL plans for 2022 World Cup
PL looking at playing up to 12th November, only 9 days before tournament starts, and resuming on 18th December, 8 days after final.
As they are only adding a week at either end of normal schedule there will be more midweek games that season. A good year to avoid European comps. I’d suggest.

8 days after the final is ample as most players will be home weeks before then. They’ll only be 44 players on duty for the final.
Re: PL plans for 2022 World Cup
Tournament starts on 21st November and ends on 10th December? 20 days, where the winner plays 7 matches? It took 32 days last time. Are they really whizzing through it that fast?Tricky Trevor wrote:PL looking at playing up to 12th November, only 9 days before tournament starts, and resuming on 18th December, 8 days after final.

BBC says the final is on 18th December (28 day tournament) and the Premier League kicks off again on 26th. Seems a bit more likely.

Re: PL plans for 2022 World Cup
Excellent year for us to be there. We only had 2 players at the last World Cup and one didn't play; all the rest of the squad could have a midwinter break, while other teams were tiring themselves out. Champions League for the taking that year, IMO.Tricky Trevor wrote:A good year to avoid European comps. I’d suggest.

They should never have been given the tournament its a none footballing nation with no history of football.
It will bring disrupting to the football scheduled more night matches to get through the domestic program
Then straight back into things on Boxing day complete pi$$ take

Can't believe they're even entertaining the idea of still holding it in Qatar. Given the absolutely shocking human rights abuses that continue to be practiced in the building of their stadiums by slave migrant workers, which should morally lead to a boycott by any nation that has a shred of credibility (Germany's government, UEFA and their football association have discussed the possibility of boycotting). The country is also under economic embargo from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, who have accused them oof funding terrorism. They don't recognise the state of Israel, which means that they are an anti-semitic state, by the international definition. Couple that with the spiralling likelihood of a US/Iran conflict on the opposing side of the gulf. Homosexuality is illegal and punishable by 7 years in prison, they don't criminalise domestic abuse or marital rape.

The economic embargo is just as much a religious thing as any real cause - and the 4 countries mentioned saying it is because of them funding terrorism is very much a case of the pot calling the kettle.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote:The country is also under economic embargo from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, who have accused them oof funding terrorism. As far as I am aware no Arab state formally recognises Israel as a nation. Something about supporting the Palestinians, I believe and international definitions are very dependent on who is writing them!

They weren’t given it, they bought it. Herr Blatter is a very wealthy man.

Re: PL plans for 2022 World Cup
I wouldn't be in favour of any of those four nations holding the World Cup either, Qatari sponsored terror is a well-known fact, including financing groups involved in the Libyan cival war and they are the biggest donor to Hamas, pledging $400 million in 2014. It's not really the embargo that is the point, it's more the open funding of terror groups.bfcmik wrote:The economic embargo is just as much a religious thing as any real cause - and the 4 countries mentioned saying it is because of them funding terrorism is very much a case of the pot calling the kettle.

That's not actually true, Egypt, Jordan and Oman are all Arab states that recognise the state of Israel. Qatar are agreeing to allow Israelis to attend the World Cup, but the very need to do that, coupled with the Anti-Defamation League's estimates that as much as 80% of Qatar's population harbours anti-semitic views means that FIFA are happy to support the marginalisation of Jewish people. I also disapproved with the tournament in Russia, based on their awful LGBT record.
The governing body are supposed to be promoting equality, stamping out decriminalisation in all it's forms. In actual fact, they're happy look the other way.

Weather is a non-issue with the winter tournament, it will be cooler than the Russia and Brazil tournaments.Dark Cloud wrote:Not to mention it's too bloody hot!!!
