kept on going right to the end when most would have folded, we would have beaten plenty of teams today

Daft goals conceded and missed chances....
Could have been so different.

We didn't do too bad. We had the chances to get something but didn't take them when it mattered and it was mistakes from Lowton and Pieter's that cost us.

McNeil absolutely deserved a goal deflection or not. Carried the attack for pretty much the entire game, quality player

The 2 goals don’t paper over the cracks. Squad not remotely strong enough.
Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
This game + Chris Wood - massive individual errors = result.
That’s the formula for Sheffield United next week.

Not bad but the top sides are ruthless and we were wasteful at both ends today.
Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
Chelsea were fortunate to go in 2 up at ht. Not as bad as some are making out.

Easily strong enough to keep us mid table, like a previous comment we did ok, just the individual errors which we seem to gift to the top 6..FCBurnley wrote:The 2 goals don’t paper over the cracks. Squad not remotely strong enough.
Yes we need players to push us and make positions competitive but sadly January is too short for our club to find them.

Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
We are in absolutely no danger of going down and id say a top 10 finish is more than realistic. Couple of rare individual errors today and if wood was on the pitch things would have been much different of that im sure. Hopefully the Wood boo boys now see how important he is to us!

yeah if only we could start an American lad who cost 50 million, bring on a World Cup winner, bring on a young lad on 100k a week and have a team full of internationals who are backed by a Russian OligarchFCBurnley wrote:The 2 goals don’t paper over the cracks. Squad not remotely strong enough.
Other than that, you are spot on

I think I'll have to stop reading the match day thread.
It's just full of whingers.

Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
Barnes didn't have a good game today. He seems to thrive off his partnership with Wood ( and vice versa ). I think he had the same difficulty with Jay that I was having before he scored. Namely, that he wasn't sure he was on the pitch and we seemed to be playing with 10 men. So far Jay has been a bit of a shadow puppet striker, lots of running about, trailing other players with no physical impact. Hopefully, he can settle down now and step it up to the required standard.
Fantastic goal, but it should earn him a dressing down. He had time and space to shape an easier chance or lay it off. That was the second time in the match that he put glory ahead of the group. He seemed a bit desperate for a goal to boost his confidence and legitamise his striking role.
Scoring with such a stunning strike could help us to get more out of him in the longer term, but we play for team results not individual youtube clips.
Nice to see Vydra get some game time and he looked lively and noticable in his brief cameo. Considering the rumblings in the last transfer window he needs some game time to keep him happy and he has patiently waited for it. If his future lies elsewhere then game time will put him in the shop window, obscurity never helps a players selling price.
We were looking good, prior to the sloppy mistake gift giving ( it seemed like Christmas came early for Chelsea ).
Quite a few positives to take away despite the result, but we really can't afford to gift wrap goal scoring chances and our passing needs work. Tarks has the skill to pick out a man, but someone needs to sit him down and remind him that he isn't Pirlo. Good judgement and reactions to avoid the penalty though. Our overall passing play is really scruffy at times which causes us a lot of unnecessary problems.
A good moment to take stock, tighten things up and maybe make some changes. We have a run of winnable games coming up that could increase our point tally significantly. So we need to stamp out the silly errors and get back to 100%.

Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
The time between the Summer and Winter window should be more than enough time to source some quality incomings at respectable prices.cockneyclaret wrote: Yes we need players to push us and make positions competitive but sadly January is too short for our club to find them.
Granted, the pool of available players will be smaller, because a lot of good players moved in the last window. Neither do we have the luxury of competing against clubs who have spent all of their transfer money like we did in the previous winter window. A lot of the Premier League clubs still have quite a bit of money to spend this time around.
However, I could still pick out players that might be of interest to us in the upcoming window and I'm in no doubt that others on the forum could do likewise. So a professional recruitment team should be able to do far far better than our layman pot shots.
We really should be looking to do some quality business. However, the obvious hash we made of things in the Summer, chasing after unrealistic targets, doesn't inspire me with a huge amount of confidence.

Re: MIGHTY CLARETS versus Lampard's Embargoes
Doesn't sound our best 90 minutes today, but Chelsea have outclassed better teams than us in the last month,we do have to minimise the individual errors, mistakes kill you at this level, and just like last week conceding bang on HT was costly.
To put the 1st 10 games into perspective, the 4 defeats we've suffered were Arsenal(5th)Liverpool(1st)Leicester(3rd)Chelsea(4th),the rest of the fixtures have yielded a haul of 12 points from 6 games,so it's certainly not the time to panic, most people predicted zero points from these 2 games,so why the meltdown,we're still in a reasonable position and November's schedule isn't unduly daunting,Sheff Utd(a)West Ham(H)Watford(a)Crystal Palace(H)we'll definitely collect points in those 4 games, like it or lump it they're the type of games which will determine how comfortable or not the 2nd half of the season will be,not playing Leicester and Chelsea who on current form could well finish top 4.

Shame. 2 gifts and an undefended cross. Versus missed chances.
Madge says goodnight.
