I really like McNeill, he’s a top player for us. Tonight we saw the reasons he might never have made it at a top club like United vs a Mount or Pulasic.

It got me asking the question, do clubs like United ever really make a mistake (modern era) in releasing youngsters?

I think he’s good enough for us, too good. I don’t think he would make it at a top CL team and therefore United were right to let go.

You can't really make that comparison though. He's our one creative outlet and we rely on him far too much for such a young and inexperienced player. Put him into a team with better quality around him and I think given the same levels he achieves for us, he'd look reasonably comfortable.

He left Utd at the end of his contract, because he wasn't good enough at the time.


Back to the topic at hand, Jordi Alba was released by Barca because he was apparently too small, but they eventually paid good money to 're-sign him and extended his contract this year I think.

Before you write off McNeil as not being good enough for the CL clubs can I just point out that he's still only 19.
At the same age, did James Maddison look like he would be a star in the making?

Let's see how McNeil develops in the next three seasons before saying he isn't good enough to play at the highest level.

McNeil has the potential to make it right at the top, after all, he’s pretty close now and doing exceptionally well.
