Can’t do from TV
But 4x23 for me thought he was excellent
Had to see the penalty on TV from different angles to see it was not a penalty

Didn’t get a lot wrong... the dive was a good one. And he booked him for it.

typical michael oliver performance, fairly solid, but gets the big decisions wrong. i called it as a dive straight away from the other end of the ground so how he couldn't tell from 10 yards away is mystifying.

actually, its not, its because he's a guesser. always has been and always will be.

I think he has gone off as a ref. I was miles away from that "penalty" in the BL and it was a clear dive. Refs need to study how people go down when they trip or are tripped. It is amazing how in the penalty area they either defy gravity as they sail through the air or having been knocked sideways their trajectories are forwards. He made a similar daft award for Spurs two seasons ago when Ali went down in the first half. Rather than award pens these refs should be scoring for 1) artistic interpretation 2) difficulty of the dive

Is it a dive or has Lowton’s push in his back caused him to go down?

It wasn’t a dive or a pen. He was nudged in the back and went down. Very slight but running at speed you can see the nudge... once VAR say no pen (quite rightly) he has to be booked. Ultimately this is another VAR or rule nonsense because you should be able to have a fall without it being a foul or a dive if you use common sense.

There is such a thing as uncertainty. Maybe not in your world, but in the world the rest of us inhabit there are situations where a decision is made based on uncertainty such as in deciding not to penalise someone. In this example it isn't clear if a foul was committed, therefore you don't punish either side. That's common sense, really.

So you’ve slagged me off whilst agreeing with what I said. Well done, I think.....

You said he has to be booked. No he doesn't. Not if VAR decided no penalty based on uncertainty.

hudson-odoi lifts both his legs off the floor for no reason other than to pretend he's been fouled. its as clear a dive as you'll see.

the funny thing was he very nearly did it again later on but checked himself. thats the problem with players like him, his first instinct is to dive.

the real issue is why it isn't a straight red card. gives players a licence to cheat.

Don’t think you have understood what I said as usual. I’m saying it was quite rightly no pen and so the VAR assessed what the ref thought was a trip as no contact so when the ref gets the info back about no contact he has to book odoi because it is confirmed as a dive. I don’t think the VAR believe there is enough contact from Lowton’s push or even if that was considered at all where the referral was for a non existent trip and not the push...the VAR should in my view look at the whole incident and suggest there is contact from Lowton but not enough for it to be an absolute dive...so no yellow...and certainly no pen...

He let us have advantage, when there was none, more than once.

If you are going to do that, call it back when the move disintegrates in a very short time.

Nail on the head.
