Pope 6
Lowton 5 - I thought he was really good but he had a horror show for the first which had a massive impact on the game.
Tarkowski 5 - weird game. Generally had Abraham in his back pocket but a shocking pass that led to the second.
Mee 6
Pieters 4 - we’ve a better left back on the bench and he needs to play. Backed off so far for the fourth he was in Blackburn.
McNeil 7 - effortlessly glides past players. Deserved his goal.
Westwood 5 - wasteful
Cork 7 - thought he had a good game today
Hendrick 5 - offered nothing unfortunately
Barnes 5 - missed a sitter at a critical point of the game.
Rodriguez 6 - a total passenger until he scored a worldie.

Vydra 7 - worked hard, tried hard. All the more baffling that he never players.
Brady - not on long enough but 2 assists and should have been on for Hendrick way earlier than he was.

In the end the scoreline probably reflected what was a curious sort of game - some good positive stuff but some poor and concerning. Hard to mark as a result.

Pope - 6 - none of the goals were particularly his fault but this wasn't an especially convincing performance by his standards.

Lowton - 5 - some nice attacking touches but foremost he's in the tram to defend. Both the initial error and the attempted recovery for the first goal weren't good enough, and the fourth goal was partially a consequence of him deciding to have a bit of afters with Alonso rather than busting a gut to get back in, leaving us short if cover. Not sure he was great for the third either.

Pieters- 5 - too passive defensively and lacking quality and composure on the ball.

Tarkowski- 5 - catastrophic error for the second goal and guilty of arguing with the ref and not paying attention before the third goal. We never got organised as a result.

Mee- 7 - only defender to really turn up today.

Cork - 7 - can be crisper in his passing, but key to us getting on top in midfield first half and kept battling when others dropped in the second half.

Westwood - 5 - some good intense passages in the first half, but his passing wasn't up to the standards he sets himself and his head was one to drop badly after the break.

Hendrick - 5 - see Westwood.

McNeil- 8 - deserves huge credit for keeping at it and showed real quality at times.

Barnes - 6 - had to take at least one of those first half chances, and did a decent job of getting about Zouma when we got the upper hand before half time.

Rodriguez - 6 - with one for a stunning, if ultimately irrelevant, strike. Truth us before then he was largely ineffective.

Vydra - 6 - did ok and showed some nice touches without really giving Dyche a selection headache.

Brady - should have been on earlier- had a point to prove and instilled a much needed drop of intensity.

Ultimately a very strange game. Two very soft and frustrating goals aside we shaded the first half until the second goal took the sting out of matters. We produced some nice football, with McNeil and cork prominent, and carved out at least three chances that at the start of the season Barnes would have buried- but right now he's going through a phase where it's not quite happening for him.

But you can't concede goals line we did today and it's a slightly worrying trend. We've given away soft goals in the last 18 months too often against the top sides and even against the likes of Leicester we're a softer touch than once we were. Two years ago we'd not have got drawn into agreed in the touchline or arguing with officials rather than getting in with the game. If we're to maintain a good start to the season, we need to get back to being that disciplined.

At the end of the day you can’t have 4 of the back 5 having a bad day at the same time and expect to get anything from it. I thought our press was excellent until the 3rd and then our heads dropped.

Two changes at fullback for next week for me.

Correct FC Burnley.
His running of the channels, looking to get in behind and being alive in the box was hugely missed today. People might not be able to cope with how often he’s offside but atleast that threat causes the opposition a different problem

A couple of soft goals cost us the match, or at least a shout at it. Thought Chelsea looked strong, very quick and won 90% of the 50/50 balls. We never let our heads drop, which looked a danger after the quick fire 3rd and 4th.
McNeil very special.
Cork, and I've always thought hes been the weak link for a couple of seasons, was excellent today. Won a lot of ball in midfield, and used it wisely when he won it, I hope it continues.

We will have a lot of easier games than an in form Chelsea, so nothing to complain about really.

pope - 6 possibly suspect on the 4th goal. oddly, other than the goals he only had to make one save.

lowton - 5 poor for the first but we do have a habit of playing daft balls across our back line where the fullback can't move forward

tarkowski - 6 obviously his error was crucial on the 2nd goal but other than that he was very good

mee - 7 loves a deflection

pieters - 4 willian has been doing the same thing for years, you don't back off him like that

cork - 7 good to have him back, easily the pick of the central two

westwood - 5 bag of spanners today

hendrick - 6 decent first half, hardly in the second

mcneil - 7 everything creative came through him

barnes - 4 inexplicable miss with his header and aside from winning a few free kicks he had little impact. nice touch to put rodriguez through in the 2nd half

rodriguez - 6 quite a strike at the death but he should have done better than letting tomori catch him when put through earlier on

vydra - 5 ran around very well, not sure he even touched the ball.

really odd game in that for plenty of it we more than matched a pretty average chelsea team but two criminal errors and some non-existent marking put the result beyond us. simply can't do that against the bigger clubs but that's exactly what we've done first against liverpool and now chelsea.

i don't think we played too badly at all and should really have got a draw out of this one but we've shot ourselves in the foot.

Weird. We started very well, and their passing was every bit as poor as ours first half hour, when Chelsea were obviously feeling the effects of heavy legs.

Criminally, we let them take control of a game they hadn't earned the right to, by gifting two of the most dreadful and sloppy goals you're likely to see this side of Southampton. We never recovered and they couldn't believe their luck.

Lastly, our passing for the entire game was woeful. 5 yarders going astray. Terrible.

Weird game

Pulisic took his chances really well, but in all three cases our sloppiness gave him the chances

But Barnes misses two sitters and an easy chance to slide Jay Rod in, and we generally play pretty well

No because that was one of 3 points I made, but feel free to pick up on just one

The main point being, possibly through no fault of his own, Jack appeared to be blowing out of his @rse around the hour mark and I thought he was average (so a 5 ) up to that point.

Pope 5-Didn't looked his normal composed self to me today.
Lowton 4-This position should have been addressed in the summer.
Tarkowski 7-Solid defensively but unusually poor in possession at times.
Mee 6-For me below the standards he has set this season thus far this season.
Pieters 5-Very hit and miss. Sorry for being a Charlie Taylor fan.
Hendrick 4-Didn't have any affect on the game.
Westwood 5-Not one of his better games.
Cork 8-Thought he was excellent.
McNeil 8-Same as Corky, Dwight's best performance. Disappointing, those around him weren't as up for it.
Rodriguez 5-Super goal but mainly on the fringes of the game.
Barnes 4-Very poor, that miss at the far post from Mee's header was terrible at this level.

Vydra 6-Should have started ahead of Barnes for me. The only surprise was that SD brought his on, alas when the game was up.
