Re: Pope
Echo the sensible comments, Pope was not at fault, more mistakes by the defenders yesterday and bad luck!

Re: Pope
Best keeper in the league by a mile
No chance with the goals
Matt Lowton at fault for first
Non tackling cms for second .
No marking by cbs for third and backing off and non tackling by Erik

Re: Pope
Hart has to start at Sheffield.
Had he (or Pickford) conceded those yesterday we would never hear the end of it. Even Heatons being slated now hes no longer here.

the last thing you do is drop a player who is consistently one of your best players. That can affect confidence. By his high standards he had an ordinary game yesterday. We should be more concerned about Lowton than Pope. He is bang average and lets our team down week after week. Amazed if the club dont strengthen the right back spot in the near future.

As much as we were very poor today at the back.
Not sure any keeper we have would have stopped any of the goals again today. 3rd could be debated.

Neither do posters, perhaps you should be pensioned offSteddyman wrote:Some posts don't age as well as others.
Unfortunately the defence looks to have lost confidence with Pope in goal, just like they did with Joe before.

Its pretty much the same defence that finished 7th with Pope in goalSteddyman wrote:Some posts don't age as well as others.

If we are basing our goalkeeper choices on previous seasons, Hart top trumps Popes 7th.fanzone wrote:Its pretty much the same defence that finished 7th with Pope in goal

Heaton's saving that 3rd goal with his hands for me.

But it's not down to this. It's down to what we do outfield. Which isn't good enough.Bin Ont Turf wrote:He likes to go with his legs and feet because he is so tall.

But this thread is clearly titled as 'Pope', and that's what I'm commenting on.
If the shot is along the ground (pretty close to him) then 95% of the time he has to go with his legs/feet. He made a great save in the second half doing this (as he has quite a few times before) but I think it is a disadvantage to him and us overall.

Re: Pope
Ropecatchmonkey, do me a favour, explain something to me. Are you suggesting that Pope is not positioning himself well, by saying ‘he’s always a yard off his line’. Sounds to me that in your opinion, he should be on his line. Most keepers spend most of the game more than a yard off their line. Standing under the crossbar is something that you only do when facing a penalty. Still, I would like to know if you have a keeper in mind who stays closer to their line, than one yard.
