I'm a massive Pope fan after we finished 7th and I was glad to see Tom go to Villa.

However, I've watched the last two Villa and Burnley games, and Tom looks a league above Pope at the moment. I was complaining about him to my daughter today on the match.

I'm not sure why he isn't playing in the way he was before he got injured.

For me, we need to consider giving Hart a chance. He’s proven at this level. Pope has failed to impress all season. This isn’t unusual after a lengthy lay off through injury.

Our second best goalkeeper behind Hart. However many on here have their favourites.

Harts crap because he smiles and earns more.

At least if we give Hart a chance it may mean Pieters doesn’t get blamed every week....

As long as we only consider it then I’m happy.

I saw them again on MOTD and thought the 4th one was the one he should have got nearer to. The other 3, it was a bad day at the office. But he can be let off, as he's had a good season overall so far I think.

By his own standards, at least two were saveable, including the all-important first (though perhaps he was unsighted for that one, for balance.) He's a far better goalkeeper than he showed today.

I’ve always thought Heaton was the better of the two, and still do, but not sure Pope did a whole lot wrong today. And he’s miles better than Hart.

And Pickford.

Are the main protagonists on this post the same blokes who queued up at half time for the 2 traps in the toilets? I ask because they either have embarrassingly small penises and don’t want to show all and sundry by using the urinals, or more believably they were wanting to partake in a line of the white powder...

Of course they could be “normal” fans but “normal” fans don’t do drugs and come out with such crap as this...

He was barely the best keeper in our starting 11 yesterday. Getting rid of Heaton was a massive mistake that will come back to haunt us. It was clear to see that the back 4 recognise his limitations and were panicking every time they had the ball which led to the errors.

You'd expect 4 highly paid professionals to keep it together and not panic when Chelsea were running at them.
Or are you just blaming the GK because you prefer Hart?

The only goal he maybe could have done better on was the 4th.

All 4 still would have gone in with Hart in goal.

Pope is one of the top 5 keepers in the league.

I was sad to see Tom go but you have to move on. The right decision was made when we chose Pope as our number one.

1st goal went through a forest of legs. Not Pope's fault.

2nd goal deflected off Mee. Not Pope's fault.

3rd goal Pulisic found space unmarked for free header. Not Pope's fault.

4th goal good finish hard and low into corner by Willian. If he had saved it, it would have been quite something.

We should be supporting the lad not trying to look for any opportunity to have a go at him.

I think he is great and we are lucky to have him.

There were one or two Defensive errors yesterday ...prior to Pope having to deal with them. The team as a whole were below par and the missed chances first half proved costly....

Take off those claret tinted glasses. Since returning from the injury he has been a shadow of the goalkeeper that he was previously. This season he has been average at best. I genuinely believe that the injury has seriously knocked his confidence.

So being given a new contract and made first choice over a vastly more experienced GK didn't improve his confidence?

It's probably the worst performance I've seen from a Burnley defence in a long time but some attention seekers try and blame the goalkeeper. Strange.

Interesting that Pope has turned a useless left foot into a full bloodied kicking foot which TH never achieved . Though the way he takes the touch on his right side is painful to watch until you know he’s doing it to set his left up . No chance with goals today

Never ceases to amaze me the number of half (and quarter) wits on this board.
Pope was not at fault for any of the goals. The rest of the defence were though.
Elsewhere in the league Tom Heaton got nutmegged for one of the goals...and has made a few other costly mistakes this season. Pickford played like a Sunday league keeper (again).

As for Joe Hart we have had the debate too much on this board. He did ok for us - just ok...he let far too many goals in from distance and did not come out of his 6 yard box. But let’s pretend he is as good as some people think - if he is its strange that in the last 4 or 5 years that nobody has wanted to sign him....or maybe it’s because when he played for Torino and West Ham he was awful.

Pope has been ok this season so far. Some brilliant positioning allowing him to make great saves look routine. Today wasn't great but all players have an off day. As for Joe Hart, he should never get near the starting line up again for us. He reminds me of a better version of Jensen, makes some worldy saves that masks his weaknesses, such as his inability to command and organic a defence. Far too eccentric.

How anyone can have a go at Nick is mind boggling. He might not be super human, but he is still the best goalkeeper for England, by a long way, and still one of the best in the league. One bad result, not one of the goals could be laid at his door, but lets have a moan. Jesus wept.
