Poor against the top clubs - great against those in the bottom half

Post by Spijed » Sun Oct 27, 2019 3:47 pm

Since we are now in our 4th consecutive season a clear pattern emerges as to how we survive fairly comfortably at this level.

Even this season a clear pattern has developed.

Just win the six pointers and must wins and you survive with a bit to spare, which we seem to do.

Results wise we don’t have a great record, which I think is the point, as opposed to the performances.

It’s exactly right - picking up wins against those most likely to be in the bottom half is the key.

Whilst true, we haven't done too well results wise over the last few seasons against the so-called 'big six' clubs, whereas we've been quite clinical against teams at the lower end.

It's only going to get worse.

Yesterdays Chelsea side would of been considered their reserve side last season bar a couple. Every squad player of the top 6 has pace and power.

We don't prioritise it, but it keeps us up.

We only need to do well against the bottom sides really. We used to struggle against the bottom sides but we have a bit more know how now and better game management. I know it was Chelsea but we weren’t good at all imo. I’ve seen enough of us to think we will get points of teams in and around us.

Also home advantage seems to make no difference. In fact Burnley have one more point and three less defeats on the road vs the top six, plus they score marginally more goals.

How do you explain that?
