Why on earth would it be sensible to enfranchise 3.4m foreigners? I don't think any EU country allows foreign visitors to vote in general elections. Why would they?

Anyway, major constitutional changes are voted on after long and involved discussion. When was this first brought up? Yesterday? No-one is going to make major constitutional decisions like this purely on the basis of thinking they might win more votes. They can't be so corrupt - can they?

You only have to look at Arthur scargill what happened there, the children of the miners will never really like a Conservative government, it led to the collapse of Edward heaths government although it's unlikely the children played a part in that particular event.

At risk of stating the obvious, local elections are local. Local government is for the benefit of people who live there. National government is for the benefit of people who belong there.

Bit of a dilemma as the local MP is a Tory but he's damn good. Always keeping in touch in between elections in the form of a regular newsletter.

Only last week we all received a letter from him canvassing for our opinions re local planning problems.

I definitely won't vote for Labour now, not since Blair and not until they replace Corbyn, so I'm not sure. Probably vote Tory because good MPs are hard to find.

Who are you voting for?

And why isn’t it reasonable to not have decided yet. If you want to remain in the EU, depending on the numbers in your constituency, you may have to be thinking about a tactical vote.

Will you change your normal vote?

Post by LoveCurryPies » Tue Oct 29, 2019 3:45 pm

I will be honest and say I am a bit of a floating voter and tend to change on the important policies and personalities of the time.

I’m also a Remainer and think I will probably vote for one of the Remain parties.

That won’t be a vote for Labour...because they have been more interested in an election than a clear view on Brexit.

So my question is, will you be voting for a party that might not be your normal choice?

My vote is in Burnley, so i'll vote Labour.

If it was elsewhere i'd vote for whoever (Lab/ reluctantly Lib Dem) had the best chance of defeating the Tories

I cannot see how any one party will get a majority. SNP will sweep up the Scottish Tory seats given the Brexit stance of the Tory party and so to stand still they will have to gain 13 seats in England. They are unlikely to unseat sitting Lib Dem MPs and will likely lose seats in the South West to the remainers. And then there is the Brexit party who will split the leave vote of Brexiteers in the northern Labour seats.
If that anyway comes to pass-another hung parliament seems likely and I guess could be another Labour minority Government propped up by the LIb Dems if Labour support the Lib Dems stance on Europe and cancel article 50. If that happens and Labour cancel article 50 then they will have gone full circle on Brexit

I know you disapprove of normal civilised behaviour on message boards and are quite happy to throw accusations of Nazism against people you don't like. It's intolerant, arrogant, rude, and pretty vile, frankly. But that's just you.

But you might bear in mind that no country in the world (unless you know different) allows foreigners to vote in general elections. General elections are for citizens of that country, only. Are you saying that every country in the world is fascist?

I literally don't know. Am I supposed to lie or something? Some of us have integrity, a foreign concept to a Trump-loving racist like yourself, i'm sure.

It depends on who the Lib Dems put up, and then it depends on which of either Labour or Lib Dems has the better chance of keeping out the Brextremists.

So to answer your question, for the second time: I. Don't. Know.

Like I've said before I'm willing to engage only if it's in a common sense manner, I don't think I've ever said let's just leave & things will be reyt, I've said things will sort themselves out & there's no need to panic regarding project fear & all the essential items we rely on suddenly drying up. Comedy gold I could say the same, just different perspectives that's all.

You're the one who claimed that people who don't have the right to vote in our General election don't' belong here. I think calling out your (to put it lightly) extremism is a perfectly fine thing for anyone to do.

You can't claim that there are people who live here perfectly legally, and who vote legally in our local election don't belong here and then claim that other people are lacking civility when they point our how reminiscent to Nazism your attitude is.

Interestingly we had a debate at work on Monday about the fight over the date of the 9th and the date of the 12th.
It had been suggested that it was because Students are still at uni.
It was suggested by a commentator that students vote twice, once in the Uni city and at home by postal vote .

I mentioned this at work, a friend at work last night mentioned the same to his wife who was enraged I had suggested such behaviour.
In an attempt to put me back in my box she contacted 2 current students at Uni, who both confirmed they voted twice.

She was apoplectic.
