Some on here would prefer the exit poll to be redone as they don’t like its result.

The good news is Johnson now has the freedom to stop acting like as much of a knob. He doesn't need to posture quite so much. It'll be like the Cameron years but with a touch less austerity and a terribly boring next few years talking about trade.

Let’s hope for a clear Conservative majority then we can get Brexit delivered and stop all the uncertainty.

smug, self satisfied, wealthy tories back in the driving seat. With a liar at the helm. Cannot fathom how empty headed our electorate are to have this shower controlling the purse strings. Rising crime, NHS on its knees, homelessness and food banks are rife, and the voting public choose conservative. I am genuinely astounded and disgusted.

Crikey, so the working class turkeys of this country have just voted for Christmas.

At least it’ll be fun to watch them all suffer over the next 5 years. People like Ringo won’t even get a scrap from their masters table. Good.

The day Labour elected that man as Leader I posted a thread entitled “welcome to the wilderness years”
I didn’t realise just how true that would turn out to be.

Mate, I think that's quite clearly in the bag. You can relax on that front! One valid point being made is that a majority of such a scale gives Johnson enough power to hold off the ERG meaning those idiots won't be able to sabotage future negotiations and cliff-edge is off the table. Implementation period extension coming in Oct/Nov, I'd put money on it.

Imgine how badly the Labour party must be thought of for people to vote this way if what you believe is true. Instead of slinging mud, calling people thick etc ask yourself what Labour did wrong..because they really got it wrong.
Remainers "but people have changed their minds"....certainly doesn't look that way. Just shows how annoyed people were with the constant blocking in parliament.

Exit poll translates to 54% chance of Tory win in Burnley. That would be incredible.

When I put my cross for the Conservative candidate today Wile I felt very uneasy.
I have been in regular contact with Julie Cooper over the last 12 months pleading with her to back the Withdrawal agreement so Labour could fight against the Tory austerity record , with Brexit taken out of the equation.
I am of the opinion that this would have made a massive difference to the exit poll, and probable result.
There must have been millions of voters voting Conservative with unease.

unease ? no, and if anyone is daft enough to imagine brexit alone was a key issue, you are clinically insane. we are lumbered with this mountain of excrement for decades. electing tories in this current era is a sign of "Im alright jack , so *** you" nothing more, nothing less.

You can always trust the British people.

Moderate left economics and social conservatism with a decent Labour leader and they would have won themselves. Hard left socialism and hyper-liberalism was always going to be soundly rejected. That isn’t Britain. Now, the country will change for the better.

I feared the MRP poll narrowing but I just suggested to Ben Page, CEO of Ipsos Mori (who is on the BBC) that the flaw in the Yougov MRP poll (unlike his exit poll) was the Brexit Party % which I feel was overstated by the methodology. We will see. He took a break from being onscreen to “like” my tweet so I take that as probable agreement.

Yep. I voted Tory for the first time in my life today and it felt odd. I first voted Labour (Dan Jones) in 1970 and voted that way at all elections (various places) up to the second Blair election when I voted LibDem (or whatever it was called then), then LibDEm again when Clegg was the leader- what a disappointment that was.
Voted Independent at the last election because I liked the guy who was local and down to earth (and got c 1% of the vote).
It seems to be increasingly a case of voting for the least bad rather than somebody who you actually believe can do the job well.

For the benefit of Remainer friends, and in the interests of renewal, there are silver linings to their cloud:

1. The DUP have been totally marginalised.
2. The ERG have also been totally marginalised.
3. Boris is now free to water down Brexit and get a strong EU deal without fear of Commons rejection.
4. The North are now the swing voter, so attention and HUGE amounts of money will now be poured in (and promised to be by the opposition).
5. This is now the Tories last chance. They have promised much to left behind areas. Don’t deliver, they are done.

All great things. I for one never wanted a rock hard Brexit. Just a real one.

I’m sorry, but I feel very strongly about this. I’ve always voted Labour- I even voted for Miliband even though I preferred his brother. I voted to remain in Europe. The emergence of Corbyn has, for me, been a horror story. I just cannot believe that anyone could trust him with anything given the colossal amount of baggage that accompanies him. He has taken the Labour Party back to the dark ages. It will never recover. He is far from being a democrat. He is a totalitarian. You have to do what he says or else! I will be just be so glad to see the back of him as well as all of his cronies including Mccluskey and Milne. I hate him and them with such a vengeance that I never thought I was capable of. I’ve had over four years if listening to this gigantic hypocrite and I’ve had enough and I am just so glad that he is no longer a threat. There will be many people in the country who feel exactly as I do.

It appears to be a very good turnout especially when you consider the terrible weather there has to be a reason maybe this time there was a really good reason just like Brexit day. I live on a cul de sac and the very next house to me becomes a polling station at each election time. I'm retired and I've watched the continuous flow of voters right up until 10.00 pm this election REALLY IS IMPORTANT !!!

The Liberal Democrats seriously need to change their name,Menzies Campbell just stated now in the BBC studio that unless the SNP achieve a majority of the Scottish vote share, then they don't have a mandate for a 2nd indy ref, well i disagree with their stance on independence, the SNP clearly are entitled to seek another say on the matter, and if they carry the majority of the country in such a vote then so be it,i'll be disappointed but i won't be defending a fresh vote, unlike the remainers and the brexit referendum.

Cant wait to see Owen Jones's face if the exit polls are correct.
Is he on tv anywhere tonight?

Not happy at all to see the Tories get a major victory tonight. I certainly have no love for their party. Voting today (via proxy) was awful for me.

However, this is the best result for Britain. Brexit will be implemented with a deal now that Johnson has such a majority that he doesn't need to listen to the ERG. I was against Brexit, but it's more important to respect the will of the people than it is to be in the European Union.

Most importantly of all, Britain strongly denounced socialism. Hopefully, Labour will realise they will never win another election without returning to sanity and the centre ground of British politics and Corbyn will be replaced with someone who this Labour supporter can actually vote for.

So both Newcastle upon Tyne Central and Haughton and Sunderland South had the LAB vote chewed into by BXP, CON not gaining too much.
