Wow! Talk about a disillusioned empty headed moron; Johnson is a politician, just as Corbyn is, and they are all liars. Labour have traditionally f*cked the economy and, personally, I wouldn’t trust them with a piggy bank. Rising crime is being fuelled by drinking and gambling and de-restriction of both were Labour policies. The NHS has always been a problem because it has always been inefficient and always will be unles there is a root and branch overhaul. The voting public looks like it might be voting the Tories in because the Labour Party want to take the country back to the 1970s. I’m delighted and enthused that the 3 year old Governmental paralysis might be over because it may mean that Brexit is finally delivered (after the much requested 2nd public vote) and then we can get back to running the country, not the wet dreams of disgruntled remainers.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 10:42 pmsmug, self satisfied, wealthy tories back in the driving seat. With a liar at the helm. Cannot fathom how empty headed our electorate are to have this shower controlling the purse strings. Rising crime, NHS on its knees, homelessness and food banks are rife, and the voting public choose conservative. I am genuinely astounded and disgusted.

Re: General Election Is On
Gains in the North East for the Conservatives, and a strong BP vote, they've saved their deposit in all 3 seats declared thus far,and Farage could well be right that they're taking votes from Labour allowing the Conservatives to come through the middle,i do find it amusing that remainers are complaining about a Tory/BP pact given the remain alliance.

If there's one thing I hope comes out of the this election and the public is shown to overwhelmingly support; is tougher rules on enforcing factual claims only in political advertising.

Really? The exit pole suggests even Burnley May go blue. That kind of indicates more people think like me than they do like you, which is a blessing to the country. That's what Corbyn has done to the Labour Party.

To put this into context Blyth Valley was number 116 on the Tory target list, this doesn't bode well for many marginals in the midlands, which are normally bellweather seats.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:36 pmBlyth Valley Labour majority in 2017 was 7,915 .... just Wow !!

Remove the "liberal" and "Democrats" from their party name.
Illiberal Extremists would be more accurate.

For all the gains that Blair/Brown made, Corbyn has undone all that credibility in four years. Labour gains in 2017 look like they were just a protest vote rather than approval of socialism.

Re: General Election Is On
Whilst it's clearly a once in a generation result I'm not sure it will be generational change. Once Brexit is in the rear view mirror and the 'Marxist antisemite' so many clearly had issue with is binned it will be back to more traditional UK issues. But Tories in the driving seat for now.

Since Brexit there has been a lot of excellent threads and posts on this hallowed site, I love you all and I think we carry on being the mentally agile people I hope we've always been but we had a democratic vote and our wishes were ignored even my friends that voted different to myself have said enough DEMOCRACY has to be seen to be done.

Labour's big chance was 2017,Theresa May had a dire campaign, and brexit wasn't as divisive an issue, and even then they only made modest gains.claret_in_exile wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 12:04 amFor all the gains that Blair/Brown made, Corbyn has undone all that credibility in four years. Re: General Election Is On
I've always thought the "why won't you respect democracy" argument a bit pi$$y and childish. It's not about respect, that's just plain naïve, and you can't just expect people to stop fighting for what they believe because they lost a vote. The whole point in democracy is that it's robust enough to overcome any perceived obstruction when the mandate is clear and solid (and that is a perception in its truest sense, because opposition is a feature of democracy). Get the mandate and there's no impediment to power. Fail to get that clear mandate and you'll struggle. Well, here is that mandate and it's emphatic. No pi$$ing and moaning from me because it's literally pointless.

Re: General Election Is On
I think there's a difference between accepting you lost and rolling over on deeply held principals. What a lot of people including myself couldn't get to grips with is when you picked two 'winners' and they had totally different opinions of what the prize was. But that's one for the MA dissertations and histories yet to be written.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 12:12 amIt's only what I've been saying for 3 and a half years.

All I want is a happy & prosperous future for the 'normal' folk of the UK and it seems the choice has been loudly made who they think will deliver that, so forward into the future we go.

26.7% of households are classed as fuel poor.

STOP PRESS; I’m listening to a Labour candidate (Stoke Central) who is realistic about what is likely to happen tonight. It’s such a pity he might lose his seat.

Do you actually believe this nonsense. Have you looked around the industrial estates and business parks in and around Burnley. Because the improvement and clear push and investment over the last ten years is there for all to see. All since the Tories have been in.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 12:16 amIt would be f@cking hilarious if Burnley did elect a Tory MP. Still waiting.
