Another defeat for the socialist left. Tears will flow.
I’ve no sympathy for Cooper who completely ignored people who voted Brexit.

My "dream" was we've had the vote so we should leave so let's vote May's deal through. You're the one who didn't want to leave. Given that Johnson was too scared to be interviewed by Good Morning Britain, never mind Andrew Neill, I can't picture him suddenly growing a pair and standing up to the EU.
Have you not been watching the election results aggi!!!!???

Looking at some of the results, Tories could have won quite a few more seats.

Almost a clean sweep: Burnley (whereI was born) Labour to Con. Peterborough (where my late son was born) Labour to Con. Crewe/Nantwich (where I now live) Labour to Con. Blackburn (where the wife was born) still f*cking Labour. It’s always Blackburn that f*cks things up.

I've seen the results. They didn't go well but I suspect the feckers at the bottom will suffer the impact.

But when you lie (as you very often do) it's still a lie.

You may want to try and rewrite history but it's all still here. You lie, you lie a lot.

You're a man who claims that to which I agreed is the same as I didn't say that. And you know it. but you're a liar so you don't care. There are plenty of other examples.

Whether your party wins or loses everyone knows that you're a liar. For some reason you've attached your sense of worth to the Brexit vote but for everyone else you're just a figure of fun that no-one takes seriously.

Aggi mate, Ringo has always held an opposing view to yourself so suck it up, he’s been proved right and you’re wrong. All the trivia that has gone on is now irrelevant because the voting public agrees with him, not you. Mank and moan as much as you want, nobody cares, the Torys are in and Brexit will now go ahead. Get used to it and get on board because if you don’t, everyone else will know you are a prick.

A period of reflection for me. Nothing has gone right for me politically, however, there has to be some silver lining somewhere. There will be benefits to this that I'll be able to draw upon, after some research and better understanding.
Well we may finally get a credible opposition out of all of this.
I know some posters will take this the wrong way, but the current Labour lot were completely unelectable as far as I was concerned. I am probably more guilty than anyone for criticising Corbyn. I could see his virtues and also (imo) his flaws. He's honest and principled (let himself down on the principle front when he suddenly campaigned to remain, despite being one of the most eurosceptic politicians in the commons) but I feel his ambition to improve peoples lives would have ultimately resulted in making them worse.
His socialist model would (again, just my opinion) have crippled the economy at a critical time.

That said, I'm not too comfortable with the tories. I hope that this landslide win wont make them think they can carry on neglecting the poorest people in society, but ultimately, I consider the current tory government the best option when it comes to making the UK an economically sound place to live.
Again, this is all just my opinion (before the usual suspects start accusing me of saying something I didnt, just because I've upset them previously)

Perhaps a more moderate Labour party can hold the current government to task in 5 years time. Under new leadership, a surge in the polls may make the tories think twice about the legislation that they push through parliament.

I'm happy with the result as it stands, but I do feel a bit sorry for people who will be waking up today, genuinely worried about what has happened overnight.

Quotes from Boris
Boris Johnson declared that "no one can now refute" that he has a "stonking mandate" to deliver Brexit in a private victory speech to Conservative aides at 4:30am on Friday.

"No one can possibly dispute that it is the will of the British people to get Brexit done," he said

Listing the seats that the Tories gained from Labour, Johnson joked "We made Redcar Bluecar."

He added: "We must understand now what an earthquake we have created. The way in which we have changed the political map in this country. We have to grapple with the consequences of that. We have to change our own party. We have to rise to the level of events. We have to rise to the challenge that the British people have given us."

I can appreciate your, and their, concerns but whoever won there would be people concerned about their future. That, unfortunately, is a feature of General Elections. Time will tell how Boris performs but, as long as he delivers Brexit everyone should be reasonably happy (remainers excepted).

The next few months will be interesting where Johnson will now have to be seen to actually govern, something he's not had to do yet. He and his government will be fully accountable with no excuses. How long the honeymoon period with the electorate will last we shall see.
I reckon it will be less than a year before Gove and other rivals decide Johnson and Cummings have served their purpose and they make their move.

Saddest part, 30% + couldn’t be bothered to vote on a day when seats were decided by just 100 votes.
Take Bury North, 105 seat majority. 20,000 didn’t bother to vote. Yet I bet they still have a lot to say. 😏

This is the Tories opportunity to show they aren’t just a Brexit party and that “One Nation” Tory party can govern for everyone. Let’s see if they can deliver on more police, nurses, school investment, social care, infrastructure etc as well as Brexit, they will not be able to use “gridlock” as an excuse and if they can prove the NHS is safe in their hands we won’t see a Labour gov for another 15 years.

Marvellous scenes and Corbyn finally slain , hopefully obscurity beckons . Good to see they’re not accepting defeat with any grace at all and blaming “the media and Brexit and not our policies “for their humiliation . Labour needs to be purged

When it all goes wrong it will still be Labour’s fault anyway, for not being ‘a credible opposition’. The logic of so called ex Labour people defeats me ‘ I’ve always been a socialist but this Labour is too socialist, so I’m going to vote for the Tory right’. Or, ‘ I want an electable Labour Party so I’m voting Tory.’ I spoke to many people who said they could not vote for Corbyn, but then couldn’t tell me why. The country has gone mad. It is our little Trump moment.

It’ll continue like this, because if anyone thinks the next Labour leader will get a fair ride, and be honestly reported by the press, then they’re certifiable. In the same way they didn’t report Johnson’s many flaws, and promoted him shamelessly, the press will seek out their “bacon sandwich eating moment” with the next Labour leader, and relentlessly drive the attack home.

The only successful labour leader in forty years was the one who became godfather to Murdoch’s child.

Fair do’s to keeping on with blaming anyone but Corbyn. Seen it loads this morning.

Plus plenty spewing hatred at ‘new’ Tory voters (not me). Well, those are the people you need to make friends with and convince if you ever want to be anything other than a fringe, protest party wailing about ‘mainstream media’.

The weather was also blamed by some modern day labour mp this morning on 5live perhaps elections should only be held in summer from now on.

Eventually you are going to have to look closer to home for the blame, which considering you seem further up corbyn than diane abbott ever got I realise won't be easy but that is the truth. His speech afterwards showed just how odious a man he is.

Just how much of a sad desperate sore loser do you actually sound!!!

Just groundless smears!!

And if I'm "just a figure of fun" how does it feel, as you sit in your heartbroken London bubble, to have been proven wrong, over and over again. Proven that my viewpoint has been a finger on the pulse. My predictions have come true! How does it feel this morning to be shown up to be completely out of touch with Real People. Like I've been telling you for the last 3 and a half years!!

Youre as gutted as in overjoyed!!

Calling me "a figure of fun" just shows how bitter and twisted you are this morning Ebenzer!!!

And guess what!? It makes victory even more sweeter!!!!

An absolutely shambolic performance by the unelectable Corbyn. The country just isn’t that far left and he was completely out of touch with the voting public. A clear majority was needed. Positive news for Businesses, markets and the economy.

Stayed up until the early hours to watch it... once Burnley turned blue, said it all.

How does Labour lose Burnley.... shocking.
Many of us have been trying to point out the strength of feeling away from closed circle Facebook pages designed to agree with you view.... this was coming. London centric labour has won London.

Hopefully Labour will now get its act together and we can at least have an opposition more interested in opposing the government rather than trying to prove they have the biggest red rosette.

I hope from a policy perspective Labour dont shift too much and stay close to where we are now.

What I would prefer is a rebranded Lib Dems or a new credible centrist party that appeals to moderates in both thr right and left wing parties as well as representing true centrists

A genuine 3 party system where it wasn't quite as tribal or good versus bad, where parties had to work for votes right across to spectrum and where they also had to learn how to work together in Parliament for me would be the best way this country could go politically

Since the Brexit referendum extremist loons on both sides of the political spectrum has had to much influence and it is why it has been such a sh*t show for the last 3 or 4 years.

One things for sure the right have got complete control of the country in terms of power and the peoples support so there is no more time for excuses or blaming others. What happens to this county over the next 5 years both good and bad lands squarely at the feet of the Tory's and time will tell if all last night and this mornings celebrating was worth it.

Nice one buddy!!

The grief I've had has been relentless at times . But im big, old and ugly enough to take it, and more. Water off a ducks back. If it wasn't I'd have jacked years ago!

Like I've said to some of them last night , and this morning, when they're still showing old habits die hard. It simply .makes today all the more sweeter!

Bit like when we secured promotion to the prem , with Coyle, for the first time.

For that, I can't thank them enough.

Twitter is a sight to behold this morning the remainers are utterly puce like in rage but sadly they still don’t get it .
They seem to think that the Tories are for 0.5% of the U.K. only ,oligarchs , billionaire etc . How many defeats do this lot need ??

So everyone is suddenly a Tory on here?

Have we entered an alternate reality?
Not turned Tory, just voted Tory.
As stated several times last night many Labour, or natural Labour voters have lent their vote to the Tories. IF Boris is true to his word and protects the NHS, and does deliver a one nation Conservatism they may stay.
Labour have a lot of work to do, the main problem is I dont think they understand why they lost, and if they don't move away from the extreme left they'll never come back.

Many many moons ago I coined the phrase "dwellers of the metropolitan London borough of Ivory Towers "

I went on national radio, extremely nervously, and pointed out that ,

"the labour party used to be the working class party.

"Its become the Islington dinner party,"

I was absolutely right........

Genuinely shocked at the margin of victory (not the actual outcome) and some of the seats the tories have won. I know that people have lost belief in Labour but didn't expect it to be to that extent.

What I don't understand though, is those who have moved away from Labour then voted for the other side. Generally people just don't change their beliefs enough to do that, but I know there are those who saw voting tory as a necessary evil to getting rid of Corbyn. There are many fans on here who claim they are drifting away from BFC for various reasons but I can't imagine any going to support Blackburn.

Until diehard Labour supporters like yourself stop blaming everything but themselves they will never stand a chance. The answers lie within your own party. The direction it has gone in..the badly misguided judgements made. Out of touch. It has become a party that satisfies the bloodlust and bitterness of the socialist far left. It doesn't represent the common working man anymore and it needs to work out why. that is if it wants to..and i'm not sure it does...certainly whilst Momentum is pulling the strings.

One ray of hope. Boris has described the votes as being on loan. That is very much the case. If Labour listen and get their act together and the tories don't deliver in the north then it could all be very different next time.

Socialism for me is for those who can, the well off, helping those less fortunate. To provide housing, education and benefits for the least fortunate.
Labour, under Corbyn and momentum arent socialists, they are Communists, and they dont want to tax the rich to provide a better future for the less fortunate, they want to punish the rich for being rich.
History has shown that attitude back fires, and when it does its the least fortunate, the very people you are supposed to be helping, that suffer the most.
Labour needs a leadership to take it back to the centre ground, that won't sit well with the lefties on this board, but they already have a home in the Communist party. They should wear it with pride, rather than hiding amongst real socialists.

Do you actually believe this nonsense. Have you looked around the industrial estates and business parks in and around Burnley. Because the improvement and clear push and investment over the last ten years is there for all to see. All since the Tories have been in.

Oh yes I forgot that the country was going to be on its knees within months of the initial referendum absolute disaster.

Still waiting.

You are a robot who believes all anti Brexit nonsense and doom mongery.
Still waiting?

Every single economic study into the potential effect of Brexit on the UK economy shows that we are much better off in the European Union. Many of these predict deep recession after Brexit.

The amount of food given out by Food Banks distributed to people since the referendum result has increased by circa 40%. The whole country may not be on its knees, but millions of people are!
