Re: Northern Cyprus
Entry restrictions are clearly given on the uk gov travel advice site! 40 cigs allowance if crossing N to S. After Brexit, crossing will become more of a problem thankfully.
Exasperated that fellow Brits, claiming to be passionate about justice & compassion, are quite happy to skip merrily into an illegally seized territory drenched in blood. Enjoy your salads, rinsed in somewhat less than acceptably clean water.

Re: Northern Cyprus
jackmiggins, I'm quite happy to skip into the North, all be it for day. My passion is to see new species of birds at this time of year, I wouldn't expect to see in the South, otherwise I wouldn't go there.
What I don't like in both areas is their lust to illegally trap then eat or shoot every bird in sight. While out there birdwatching in Sept, I was approached by 2 men with shotguns, who asked me what birds were about. I'd to be careful with my reply and it wasn't even the start of the shooting season.
I will heed your advice and avoid salads and not spend any money, so I don't help the local economy, which may make you feel better about me going there.

That's just not true. If you have the right insurance, you're covered. If you don't, you aren't. Same as anywhere else.jackmiggins wrote:... insurance is negated...

Re: Northern Cyprus
Flights sorted. Flying into Paphos as into the north is a faff (and can cause issues coming into the south)
Will be travelling around the island. So recommendations in Paphos and elsewhere also appreciated.

Was it yourself I bumped into at Latsi? If not I bumped into a Yorkshire Claret and wife down by the harbour there whilst walking. Always see a claretYorkshire Claret wrote:Am going out over the next International break for 10 nights, never been to the Northern side before but will post opinion once back in Blighty. Travelling with CyprusParadise, flying from Luton as it’s lots cheaper and can go straight to Watford on return.

Re: Northern Cyprus
The weather in Cyprus looks amazing in Autumn. Never been but definitely going to give it a go
Re: Northern Cyprus
My trip to the North this week didn't lead to me seeing any new bird sightings and was a waste of time. To Jack miggins I kept my pledge.
CCF thanks for car lift offer, but I will have done enough travelling, going out for 3 days, all over the place. You might like a trip up the coast road to the Polis area.
I'm taking it easy until Tuesday and staying around Paphos, in case I get more reaction from the fly bites I suffered. While I've met Ian McL, I also bumped into another Yorkshire Claret I met here 18 months ago. He' was telling me he booked his train tickets for Spurs, knowing he will this time watching the game at the new ground.

In case you don't pick up from the other thread, Cricketfield
Not least at the other end of Paphos, just up from the fort and near the car park. Simple entrance, massive site. Super mosaics..
Kourium is another not to far. Amphitheatre a cracker.
Really nice village with cobbled street - Omodos.

Re: Northern Cyprus
I think that's it. It is just before you start the walk to the fort at the end. There is a car park there to the right. I drove down the pedestrianised road, where the road veers off to the right. Simple building and entrance, but covers the whole of that peninsula.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Thanks ian. Sorry not been on but just logged in to check for recommendations. If you are going to Famagusta (can you get there own steam?), then the salt flats near Larnaca are worth seeing. If you don't get that far, then there are good salt flats at Akroteri, where the Brit base is. Worth a trip. If you want to cool down, top of Troodos mountain. Few stalls there, selling knickknacks.
Re: Northern Cyprus
CCF just in case you didn't read my post above. I strongly recommend you carry fly repellant ie Jungle Juice. As IanMcL can confirm, my legs are a right mess as a result of bites and I've had to get Antistomene antibiotic cream and antibiotics, to alleviate the stinging and weeping sores.
There's a sight some way up the coast past Coral Bay, at a small harbour village where I've seen Green Turtles on my last visit. Someone on here may know it.

Re: Northern Cyprus
I can confirm Bfc is suffering.
There was a wee cat just across the hotel lobby. I called puss puss....and Bfc came over!

We went to a spot near there (last time we were in Paphos) on a Jeep safari and saw a Turtle breeding site.Bfc wrote:CCF just in case you didn't read my post above. Re: Northern Cyprus
I’m sorry to hear that you’re twitching wasn’t productive BFC & hope the bites heal very quickly.
You’ll appreciate that my concern is with the complex moral & ethical Cypriot situation (which, APPARENTLY, is of diminished importance due to the Deutsch imperialisation of Europe).
So pleased that we have a ‘massive’ remain minority that will vociferously argue we should remain in a Teutonic empire.

Most Greek Cypriots voted to stay separate. Most Turkish Cypriots voted to reunite.
