Hired diesel question.
I'm currently spending a couple of weeks touring the uk on my annual october jaunt. High mileage being driven using a hired SUV...decent motor...more or less new..diesel jobbie with only around 7k on the clock.
Although it runs well with very good mpg, I was thinking of whacking a couple of drums of chip oil into the tank to keep the costs of the trip under control....I understand that this isn't technically illegal....and I cant find anything in the hire agreement that disallows it...but do people think the hire company might get a bit sniffy about it if they find out?
Or is there a moral issue here? I'm ok with it n principle mind.

One it is illegal as its petrol duty avoidance if it’s not bought from a recycling firm that pays duty and secondly I would expect the hire company to bill you mega bucks for a full tank and engine flush if they spot it
Not worth it for marginal savings. I’m also not sure how modern engines like it, you normally smell it coming from battered old Merck’s

You can buy used cooking oil on Ebay for 40p a litre. They usually sell the ethanol to mix with it when you get there

Used prolifically in our local taxis, along with red diesel.

Hi fatboy47, nothing in your hire agreement that refers to using the correct fuel? I'd expect you will find a section of the contract that refers to the vehicle being diesel fuelled. It might have been pointed out to you when you hired it.... maybe even circled...… it might be part of one of the clauses you were required to initial.fatboy47 wrote:

Tons of stuff about fuel PW...but it' all related to how much there is in the tank when I return it. They clearly want it to be full, but nowhere do they state what they want it to be full of.
