Fifa 20

I'm sure there are plenty of people on the board who play, but I just want to ask...

How on earth do you actually do it?

I have the rough basics back in my head now; dribble, pass, sprint, shoot and jockey buttons etc... (The last fifa game I bought is '09, when it seems so much easier to control/tackle and position players).

I'm finding it impossible to defend or track/recover the ball when not in possession. I just end up with players running all over the shop when trying to get them close to the opposition's player. It seems to take ages for them to change direction and get to where I want them, by which time ball has been passed and I'm back to players running around like useless fools again. It's just so frustrating, I cant get anywhere near the ball. I'm nearly ready to give up!

Any tips?

Hold L2 when you're defending and don't sprint if you want to move side to side quicker.

Aye. Take your finger off sprint. Just use it when through on goal or you want to your player to create some space. It took my 5 FIFA's to get that finger off the sprint button. As for defending like cm4 says hold L2 and don't use the sprint button unless you're chasing. Set you custom basics up too. Plenty of info/YouTube vids out there and they usually update after a patch etc.

Get high rated defenders none of these 79 rated shite lol. Find a formation you like or just get everyone on 9/10 chemistry and change in game to a formation you like. I'm using 442 then sometimes switch to 4231 or 4222 with fast cam's. Game play's crap atm. EA have killed fut.

Players who are decent that I've used are Aguero, Suarez, scream ozil (you can get him free by doing seasonal objectives) fullbacks are pap keeper is Navas/de Gea/Alison but he's gone shite for me now. Centre backs are all meh imo even icons. Used most wingers and they're a bit meh too. I'm still working this FIFA out.

I just got the entire Burnley team. I can't play with anyone else! It's quite satisfying though pasting some kid with hundreds of pounds worth of players, especially if it's a late header from Barnes.

Problem is I have coins and nothing to spend them on till there are some in form clarets!

Microtransactions now make up 28% EAs sales. £40/£50 for a game and then further monetise it with microtransactions. Gamers are being mugged. Same with Ubisoft. Make games a real grind, often having a detrimental effect on gameplay, but offer multiple ways to avoid this by paying $$$$ into their coffers.

Luckily I have found 4/5 players who are easily tradable for quick profits and when I can be bothered I can make around 30/50k coins profit in an hour. It is horrible though the amount of people who spend a shedload of money on these games and usually end up with no decent players.

Not a bad FUT side at the minute and haven’t spent much on the actual game. About £30 on some fifapoints early on and I won’t spend any more now.

Does that work on Fifa 19, too? My nephews have it, but when I'm trying to get the ball off the attacker, my player runs all over the place, so I have to try and time a sliding tackle.

I've bought the odd FIFA points every now and again over the years. But it's the "pro's" who definitely get looked after. To not have to trade or snipe you need to spend £££ otherwise by the time you've got a decent team they've changed the facking game play again. It isn't worth it any more. EA have destroyed the game with greed.

Played FIFA pretty much all my life and this one is the worst
It feels like a stressful chore to play instead of enjoyable
I was in the top 2000 in the world on FIFA 18 by just playing simple football.. I can hardly be bothered playing it now
Last year I couldnt wait to compete on FUT weekend leagues
Defending is very annoying, don't seem to have the time to learn all these custom tactics etc

Setting one CM to cut out passes and one to sit forward a bit seems to do well for me with press on loss of possession set on tactics.

I'll look into that one..
Just seems any through ball kills CBs and the opposition is 1v1
Keepers seem to save more on this game
I either lose 3-2 or win 5-4

This time i’ve found leaving defenders to just defend and attackers to attack works best - so I have my fullbacks staying back on tactics and leave my (quite strong) attack to just get on with it.

Also having attackers set to long ball is good - they’re always playing on the shoulder then and making runs

Havent had an xbox or played Fifa in years. But got one recently for when my nephews come round (honest) but started playing a bit. Bought 19 and 20.

Initially hated 20 and thought 19 was miles better. But the new one seems like you have to do more things manually (like this post suggests - control your defenders etc). Actually started to get into it now and prefer it. But took a bit of getting used to.

FUT in principle is a good idea. But personally don't play it. Too much faffing about. Not to mention extra spends. Surely £50 a game is enough in itself!?

I was always a Pro Evo player instead, but not played that in years.

Does anyone know how the Pro Evo option files work on the PS4? It's years since I last played Pro Evo and messed around with option flies.

I know you have to download them and transfer the files onto a USB stick, but what's the faff like after this. Do you still need to manually transfer everything into individual clubs or is it more straight forward these days? If there's not much faff involved - I might buy it and try and get my lad into Pro Evo instead of Fifa.

The game is a bit of a mess at the moment. The only way to be solid at the back is to change the custom tactics to ‘Drop Back’ and have the depth of your defence to 1 (the deepest possible). It makes games boring but everyone does it and if you don’t you’ll just get countered every time you lose the ball.

Never played Fifa online, can you enter league tournaments and if so, how do they set how often you play?

It's dead easy. Pretty much every file will transfer over and takes only about 5 minutes to have the kits, players, badges and competitions. Picked one up off eBay for about £3.99 and they bloke is from Nelson.

This is the site and once you've bought the stick, you're registered, so any updates from that are free

I've personally flicked between fifa and pes previously, but it's been many years since I've bought either.

Jumping stright into fifa 20 is a terrible, frustrating experience. There's really not much though gone into it if you're a casual player or new to the franchise. It's just hard work, currently not an enjoyable game.

I'm glad it came free with my xbox, I'd be gutted if I'd paid £50 for it!

Looked like one of them days for Burnley. 3-0 down at half time again.

Brought Hart and Gibson on at half time and the rest is history

Wood scored in a 3-0 defeat.

As a manager - not impressed!
