"Drinkwater is finally back in training but it will be several weeks before he is ready to return for the Clarets"
Pathetic if that's true.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
Why is that pathetic? Obviously his injury was due to him being a bit of a prat but it’s standard procedure for all our injured players to get some game time before they return.FactualFrank wrote:"Drinkwater is finally back in training but it will be several weeks before he is ready to return for the Clarets"

So it's looking like the tail end of November/early December before he's in contention for the 1st team squad. Such a shame

I’m sure these posters if you look back on transfer deadline told the rest of us he was going to get injured in a freak nightclub incident...if only SD would have listened.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends the season with us, could be a very determined lad champion at the bit to prove people wrong and relaunch his career

Re: Danny Drinkwater
Has anyone noticed the headline at the link suggests a permanent move while the article itself suggests an extension of the loan.
What they’ve done is mash up Dyche’s comments from the first press conference after the incident and what he said about him at this week’s press conference.
Dyche was asked about the possibility of extending the loan. He said: “We weren’t thinking it would transpire as it has done, so that kind of leaves it in a bit of a different place to what it could have been if he had been fit and well and playing. We’ll figure that out as we go from here.”
Dyche also said that he is now fit (injury free) and has trained for a week with the squad and he needed another week and then some games.

Only scanned it so good to know its not the latest news. Hoping he'll be on the bench in the next 2-3 games and get 20 minutes.

Yes because it’s not that anyone knew he had a drink problem and hardly played for two years , as we all know the recruitment team do such a thorough jobTVC15 wrote:Usual melts out in force again

Danny surely must have been impressed by Sean’s handling of it. If he is going to make anything of the rest of his career it will be at Burnley... The ball is in his court. Sort himself out and hope Sean signs him. Keep on his current track, go back to Chelsea and end up on the scrap heap at a young age.
Look at Joey, I think he felt he owed Sean and hopefully Danny thinks the same.

Yep you our right - our recruitment in the last 7 years (starting with that idiot of a manager) has been truly shocking.joey13 wrote:Yes because it’s not that anyone knew he had a drink problem and hardly played for two years , as we all know the recruitment team do such a thorough job

'Drinkwatergate' would try the patience of a saint and I feel that fans,on here, have been more than fair to him throughout this sorry saga.
Re: Danny Drinkwater
Whilst it can’t be argued that so far, Drinkwater’s loan has flopped, I still think that he could turn out to be a great signing for us - be this a loan extension or ultimately a permanent deal.

I doubt we would have put all this work into his rehab if it hadn’t been agreed with Chelsea that he’ll still be here after January

Generally speaking, the fines dished out in football are tiny compared to income.

From what the management has seen of him. That is not one league game under his belt, on what basis could they possibly sign him? I hope it works out but its a very slim chance.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
If we started with long term aspirations of making this permanent then so far it's probably worked out as well as it ever could, albeit in a wierd and unplanned way.DCWat wrote:Whilst it can’t be argued that so far, Drinkwater’s loan has flopped, I still think that he could turn out to be a great signing for us - be this a loan extension or ultimately a permanent deal.
Drinkwater's stock in the game and at Chelsea has presumably tanked further, which is exactly what we needed to give us a realistic chance of keeping him throughout the season and cutting a deal at the end of it. He's fit now if we need him - he'll be fitter after a few friendlies but if we had an emergency he's available. Meanwhile circumstances hav allowed Burnley to be good to him and demonstrate why we might be the ideal club to rehabilitate him. Whilst on the pitch we've not actually missed him because the couple of games Cork missed gave Hendrick a chance to make his mark.

His value must certainly have fallen, which could well help us, should we decide to pursue a permanent deal.
There’s a quality player in there, if we can get him in the team and replicating his form of a few seasons ago.

Re: Danny Drinkwater
I was thinking the same thing, and imagine we're far from alone. Although of course if he remains and does well for the second half of the season, it may still end up working out that the price that Chelsea put him at, has us out of the reckoning, with us still only getting half a season out of him. Time will tell.claretspice wrote:If we started with long term aspirations of making this permanent then so far it's probably worked out as well as it ever could, albeit in a wierd and unplanned way.

Time will tell.

If we were thinking of signing permanent it might not be a bad thing he had the incident, as the fee will certainly be reduced .
