keep reminding people we are punching way above weight
keep reminding people we are punching way above weight
YES today we sounded shite
YES we are a "predictable" side in many ways
YES we do struggle in the transfer market
YES we do struggle to attract players
But this has been going on since we got back in the premiership, even when we finished 7th we were'nt blowing teams away, we wont progress as we are now unless there is significant backer comes to the club, like Bournemouth, like Leicester etc etc and even then it could either get better or end up like a Coventry, Sunderland situation.
This clubs simple task under the current board (and no disrespect to them but they are saying you cant have a good throw of the dice and keep a small town club running properly) is to finish 4th from bottom or better and thats it. The clubs simple task is to survive at any cost playing any type of football we have to in order to finish 4th from bottom or better.
Dyche this and Dyche that, tatics, subs, playing style, adaptability can only come with a squad of players that are capable of playing different ways, we have little pace in the team, we have not got numerous flair, creative players and again this also has been the same since returning to the prem. When we won the championship 3-4 years ago supporters were'nt in arms about the way we played, Dyche tatics, Dyche playing style etc etc its horse for courses. Yes today was shite, yes we did get beaten by a team thats just been promoted but they also have more momentum at present and no fear and they did beat arsenal last time at home so they can also get results - 3 nil yeah is poor but unless we go down on goal difference irrelevant.
We will go on bad runs, we will string together patches of good results thats the Burnley rollercoaster I am afraid.

He said they looked ok. Is that really heaping praise on them?Spijed wrote:Let's see if they play in Europe before heaping praise on them!

But the point is a valid one. Minus Defour, the bulk of that squad who finished 7th still plays for us now. Hence we have it in our armoury to finish at least mid table. They don’t become bad players overnight. We do need some fresh legs in key areas in Jan thoughBOYSIE31 wrote:Here we go again - that was 2 seasons ago - we once won the league you know

But 2 years older
Re: keep reminding people we are punching way above weight
Did Fergie still play the same team in 2001 that won the treble 2 years earlier. No. Y’know why? Because you have to consistently move forward. To improve the squad and the starting 11. Not sit still and expect everybody else to sit still with you. You always have to try to improve or you get left behind.Ric_C wrote:But the point is a valid one. We missed a massive chance that summer to improve our squad and try and keep growing. But instead we make signings like a newly promoted team over and over again

Actually Fergie did play pretty much the same team.Dyched wrote:Did Fergie still play the same team in 2001 that won the treble 2 years earlier. No. Y’know why? Man Utd team in the 1999 CL final :
Schmeichel; G Neville, Johnsen, Stam, Irwin; Beckham, Butt, Giggs, Blomqvist (Sheringham 66); Cole (Solskjaer 80), Yorke.
Man Utd team that kicked off the 2000/01 PL season:
Barthez, G. Neville, P. Neville, Stam, Johnsen, Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Cole, Sheringham, Giggs. Subs: Van Der Gouw, Wallwork, Yorke, Solskjaer, Fortune.
Bearing in mind that Keane and Scholes were first choice in '99 but were suspended in the final, I make that just three changes. One of those was just swapping one striker from the bench into the starting eleven and another replacing a goalkeeper who had retired.
