VAR... how?

Post by burnleymik » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:18 pm

Anyone watching the Chelsea Watford match?

See the penalty VAR just gave, but the shouts we have turned down? It just doesn;t make any sense.

There's a chance that VAR simply aren't neutral. The same way some referees aren't neutral.

There's a bigger chance that its the football fans who arent neutral and are the ones with the bias

I wanted VAR, buts turned into a real joke situation.

The hand ball today was 100% a pen.

No wonder some fans are falling out of love with football.

Without wanting to sound ridiculous and victimized if you think of it with this in mind..... the tv companies want the most viewing public....teams like us dont bring big viewing numbers,.. var could well be their chance to "shoehorn" us further down the league increasing the chance of us leaving the league through relegation.
Unless the referees and var become totally indepentant then this could well be happening and even then still open to corruption.
I'm not quite at the stage of this thinking yet but why they havnt drawn up clear guide lines and the inconsistencies in decision making does smell a bit, var isn't the problem it's the people/narrative that is running it....for me anyway

I remember people saying we'll get all those pens we should have had when VAR comes in.

This one assisted Watford against Chelsea. It was yet another case of the referee getting it right and VAR overruling him, but it wasn't for the benefit of the "big club".

Of course, I may have missed the rule change. Perhaps it's in the laws of the game - offences which carry a direct free kick or penalty - "making contact with a player who is entitled to go down".

If you take two steps under control before falling over, there is no way on earth that you have been tripped. This penalty was given because the player was touched and chose to throw himself down. And if a referee - and Dean is supposedly one of the better ones - thinks that is a penalty, then the game is ruined. Penalties are purely a matter of diving well and random number selection.

Five minutes later, Abraham tried to score, a defender touched him, he fell over under the contact. A genuine fall this time. Why no penalty?

They were saying if it hits a defenders area/ hand in the box it is a penalty...

No one has the RIGHT to go down in the game I grew up with... you went down if you could not stay on your feet....

It is no longer football, it is a hybrid sport for the American /Far East sport market.

To forward the commercial at the expense of the sport.

Really hope they give their heads a wobble before they destroy the game, but I won’t be holding my breath.

If it hits a defenders hand in the area it still has to be deliberate. If it hits an attackers hand in the area and it leads to a goal, an offence has been committed and will be penalised.
