Realistic transfer targets in January

Post by jrgbfc » Sun Nov 03, 2019 8:58 am

I think we all know that we'll probably stumble on to the summer with what we have, but who would people like to see us go for in January? I'll start with Jarod Bowen at Hull. Scored his 10th of the season yesterday and with JBG injury problems this lad would be a perfect fit on the right. I'm amazed no one was in for him over the summer tbh.

Agreed and Kalvin Phillips but I think that ship has sailed now with Man Utd linked

Anyone, just anyone to replace Lowton. A complete liability and other players consistently pulled out of position to cover for him.Now close the thread.

Can't see Leeds selling him in January anyway. But as you say I think he'll have his sights set a bit higher than us.

Eze QPR

Young, big, strong, box to box, scores and creates.

Ticks all the boxes and with only 18 months left on his contract.
With Warburton SD mate, and them having Wells off us, it could put us in poll position.

1 thing I think we all agree we need is to bring the age of the squad down, and we need a midfielder or 2.

Would be surprised if Bowen is still a Hull player by the end of January.

Don't think Chelsea would be willing to let him go but the young right back Reece James would be great on a 6 month loan.

Not a dig, but with 2 RB already here, our rigid framework and how long it takes for new players to bed in, I'd be majorly shocked if we signed a RB on loan for 6 months and played him. Itd take an injury or 2 IMO for any new loan signing to be put straight in.

It's not how SD works, and he's said that himself.

Dyche doesn’t make changes to the defence via recruitment in January.

On the odd occasion we have signed immediate first team contenders in Jan, they’ve almost exclusively been midfielders (usually wide players).

Realistically we're going to sell Vydra to Bournemouth and bring in Defoe who will retire at the end of the season.

From the Sun today .... I give up with today’s amazing journalism .....

“Burnley are heading the queue for Preston midfielder Ben Pearson with both Steven Defour and Jeff Hendrick out of contract at the end of the season.”

We need at least two new midfielders and a right back.

Leeds know they are pretty much going up, so Phillips is no chance. They'll wait until the summer and then offer him an improved contract.

Bowen from Hull is a great shout.

A quick forward.

An upgrade in CM.

A right back.

Not sure it'll all happen in January but this is what we require.

Made a point on another thread that Mike Rigg has been in post for almost a year. Hope we don't have any more excuses about him settling in. He needs to put forward a number of viable options that will upgrade the starting eleven

Bentley was still pushing the "we don't have a European scouting network" line yesterday.

Didn't Dyche say that Rigg gave him plenty of options and he wanted to sign quite a few of them but the board said no? I'm sure I read/heard that in an interview.

Bowen would be a good signing but if he continues with his form a bigger club will look to sign him. Extend Drinkwater's loan deal and look for a young up and coming right back like Luke Matheson.

Interesting, didn't hear about that. Wonder if it was the transfer fee or wages that were the barrier then for the board?

The only business we will be doing in the January transfer window is extending Drinkwaters contract. If we are canny we might even be able to get a further 50% reduction in his wage, because lets face it we have got no value out of him yet and Chelsea won't want him back

Agreed. And I still have faith that he can turn our season around and get himself into the starting 11. But it will take a while for SD to drop Cork, as I think he would work best with Westwood.

All is not lost yet Frank. We have only had two poor performances all season to date. I fully expect Sean to make the changes over the next couple of games to stop the rot

Agree - we've done ok so far despite yesterday's poor performance. The league table is tight but we're 14th currently and most supporters would take that come the end of the season.

I thought we were absolute bonk against Liverpool, but Taylor will come back in and hope Wood will make it for West Ham.

I don't think we're as desperate for new players as some make out though. Drinkwater will be our signing if the loan is extended. Get him performing like he's done in the past and that could be all we need.

Ollie Watkins scored 10 already for Brentford. Young, pacy forward, could offer them Vydra as part of any deal.

It'd make a change from recent times, if we signed someone who could improve on what we have and go straight in the team.

Maybe, but 6 months with the group and a full pre season will get him right up to speed.

He ticks every box.

Cork and Westwood arent getting any younger, we need to start getting their ling term replacements in
Sooner rather than later.

I'd say the same regards a wide man, a right back and a forward too.
We've had 3 quite poor ( being nice, dont want to get into a window debate ) where the first 11 hasn't really been improved, nor has any attention been given to the future.

Other than BPF there hasn't really been too much put in place in terms of signing a younger player with development opportunities with the long term plan for them to be first team regulars since Taylor's arrival a few years ago.

That has to change if 20m cant even buy you a championship midfield player with no premier league experience what so ever.
