Teachers Strike on Wednesday

Post by ŽižkovClaret » Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:40 pm

In Czech Republic, just seeing how many people don't bother to read this before commenting how ridiculous it is

Why are they striking?

Workload, behaviour, pay?

In simple terms:
Teachers asked for 15% raise
Government agreed 10%
Government then reneged and decided 2% to be determined by headteachers and 8% granted across board.
Teachers already tired of govt reneging on agreements have had enough and are striking

As it is, you can get more working in LIDL, so the base salary is in dire need of that 10% raise, in case that seems excessive

Then they should work in Lidl if it's about the money

Why do these type of comparisons always come up in justification then?

Teachers on strike .... we (as pupils) used to love it in the early 70's got a day(s) off :D :D :D

Skiving buggers should know better ... what sort of bloody example are they showing the kids of today.....
:D :D :D

On saying that I never took a day off on strike throughout my working life. So it didn't affect me ;)

Well, i don't know how it compares in the UK these days, but in the Czech Republic, the teachers are without doubt underpaid, be it compared to LIDL staff or anyone else

A good teacher is worth their weight in gold. I had some cracking teachers at school, not only knowledgeable, but also enthusiastic. Working in a supermarket is a means to an end, teaching is a vocation.

No, I’m not a teacher.

These East European teachers must be thick, why they can't even spell Check correctly.

Anyone who isn't smart enough to realise there's more money to be made working in Lidl, shouldn't really be teaching anyone anything.

That may sound harsh, but making your own bed then complaining it's lumpy is a bit daft innit?

As the husband of a teacher, I can say the pay in the UK is pretty shambolic for the work load. People think it's an easy ride because you get weeks off in summer but it's not. They don't work 9am - 3:30pm, it's 8am - 3:30pm, usually with no breaks and then 6pm - 9pm once the marking and preparations are all done. Not to mention the amount of their own money they are expected to use on decorating their classroom, and providing adequate materials.

We've moved to South East Asia because the work load is half and the pay is double.
