I thought we had already invested a lot into youth with our upgrade in academy status and the developments at Gawthorpe as well as bringing in players to develop from around the country?

For a start Tarks and Taylor are both 26 and Mc Neil came from utd.
Others currently are not playing - next

So that's about 4 signings in 7 years then? One of whom will never get anywhere near our starting line up.claptrappers_union wrote:James Tarkowski (23)

We haven't signed a player capable of walking into the first 11, nor have we improved it in 3 maybe 4 transfer windows.BOYSIE31 wrote:I am speaking about first team ready for now not maybe in 3 years.
I think buying a young player ready in 2 or 3 years maybe the only way.
We couldn't afford/attract a young unproven midfielder from a championship club after offering 20m.
God help us when it comes to signing a creative player or a goalscorer if that's the starting point for a good no thrills championship midfielder

In fact let's not play him at all.
Let's lodge a £60 million bid for Marcus Rashford, £35 million for Mason Greenwood, £40 million for Mason Mount and offer a cheeky £235,000 for Bradley Dack.
Seems like a sensible way forward for Burnley Football Club.
The future will be ours. Can't think of why we haven't done this before.

We once won the league in the 60's you know.

Seems odd you would, unless obviously it was a correct statement that meant you couldnt mould to suit your point.

Just so you can read it again and either point out what's incorrect or make a reply that answers a certain point

It was Dunne I was referring to. I'm assuming from next season Peacock-Farrell will at least get to play in our 2 cup games a year.MACCA wrote:I dont think Dunne will either to be fair.

Possibly depending who we bring in for Hart, as they might come in as number 1 ( unlikely ) or number 2.jrgbfc wrote:It was Dunne I was referring to. I'm assuming from next season Peacock-Farrell will at least get to play in our 2 cup games a year.
Be a hard sell offering a current playing quality keeper the 3rd choice role, unless we go either quite young, or quite old.

Re: Investment
But OP is having a pop at the transfer policy saying that the club don't invest in young players. So what I gather he wants players between 18-23 to come straight into the team?

Re: Investment
He's right you know. We should be signing young, creative, quick players. Who can immediately make an impact at a mid-table Premier League side. And who don't cost too much. And who fit within our wage structure. And who find Burnley more attractive than 19 other clubs.
Can't believe we aren't doing this. Seems obvious, now you've said it.

No we seem to have moved away from this policy and want to know why ??
We have the oldest squad in the league who are still getting older and sooner or later we will need to replace about 5 in one window and i know where that will get us.

And you will probably never see any of them play in the first team.

So, with that conclusion, having an Academy and a Development squad is pointless - and the money saved running them should be spent on transfer fee's for young players with proven Premier League quality?

Only from what Tony posts about and website and never seen any play but the old saying is if good enough then old enough
Re: Investment
How would you know that ? You have never seen them play. We have a 16 year old in Lewis Richardson who is playing and scoring for the u23. There were a number of clubs after him. Dwight McNeil was playing for the u23s only a year ago.BOYSIE31 wrote:And you will probably never see any of them play in the first team.
We made £25m profit on selling a youngster we bought.
We cannot compete against the likes of Chelsea, United, City, Liverpool in signing youngsters. The likes of Chalobah and Bamford were on £30k a week as youngsters at Chelsea and were a million miles from their first team and have not exactly been superstars since.
Blackburn were a status one Academy for years and they used to get a lot of the local Burnley youngsters before we opened our facilities and had our own success. How many Blackburn players have come through their system and they have spent a lot of money over many years into their youth system.
What exactly do you want the club to do that they haven’t done in the last 8 years ? - look at the list of young players we have signed and how much money we have made from selling them or keeping them and seeing their value increase.
