To me, it seems like the only way to enforce the 'clear and obvious' rule is to have a unanimous decision to overturn.
Up until recently, I believe there was a similar system for scoring Olympic boxing points. 3/5 judges had to award a point for it to be given.
Why not have 3 VAR refs watching each game independently - if all 3 don't agree (in isolation) , then nothing is changed. Must be a reason they've not thought of this?

Also the number of them is not the issue. It is the fact that they all understand the laws but not the game. You really have to get to a point where decisions are consistent rather than the level of error or decision threshold...that really is a pointless system because you get inconsistencies from game to game.

People are queueing up to become referees, that is why local leagues throughout the country are using social media to try to find officials every week of the season.
Many lads and lasses complete the course, start to referee but then get disillusioned because of the amount of abuse they get from coaches, players and spectators which has become much worse over recent years. They then just pack it in and are lost to the game.
Added to this is the fact that quite a number of leagues at grassroots level have folded, therefore, this does not help the development of those referees who do continue. In the past, we older guys used to act as mentors to younger officials and attend games to watch them and advise on their development, however, this is not happening any more for various reasons.
The thought of seven officials being used at a game which used to use just three, even at International level, makes me wonder just where it is going to end. Mind you, remember that the PL are using 6 officials at the moment because there is a VAR and and assistant VAR at Stockley Park.
Last weekend, Mike Dean was VAR at two matches on the Saturday.
