Good news .... the North West's water resources stood at 85.5% of capacity last Sunday, up from 65.9% a year ago. Rejoice !

I hardly think today's weather will diminish the position, do you think we could sell some of it down south, or perhaps exchange it for well paid jobs and some sunshine ??

The monthly water situation reports are confusing sometimes. For.instance, the report for the north west in September this year indicated rainfall of over 160% of LTA(long term.average) for the month yet reservoir capacity in the north west dropped from 89% in August to 87% in September.
Just don't see how storage can fall when rainfall is approaching nearly twice the monthly average. Any experts on here to shed some.light on this?

For one thing, average rainfall in September is lower than in other months so 160% of average isn't as high as it sounds; for another, water evaporates faster in summer and there is more usage from canals and possibly irrigation (though this summer, probably not!).

But another thing to consider is how much capacity is (for practical purposes) full? I doubt they would ever be 100%. There is always maintenance, especially in summer. They would never (I suspect) be 100% full. 87% would be very high for summer, and it may be that both August and September were in effect full.
