Singapore recommendations
I know we have many well travelled people on this forum so...
Have a 2 day stop over next summer, any recommendations of things to do, hotels etc would be great. Travelling with mrs beehead and 2 teenage offspring.

Re: Singapore recommendations
Raffles The most famous hotel there. Take in some colonial era history. Also take the cable car across the bay if still in operation. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

We are there for 3 nights in March m8 we have trips pre booked to the Botanical Gardens, The Nature Reserve Park (at night) and to Raffles etc ... we are also going to see if we can find the flat the wife lived in for 18 months 50 years ago ... have google street viewed it so we know it was still there a couple of years ago ....Bertiebeehead wrote:I know we have many well travelled people on this forum so...

More reasonable eating places can be found in china town, various food halls and little India.

Re: Singapore recommendations
Eating at the street food / food halls is not expensive at all and you’ll get some of the best food the city has to offer.

Re: Singapore recommendations
Singapore is great. I used to visit 8+ weeks every year for work up to 4 years back.
Yes, exchange rate movements since 2008 have made Spore expensive. 20+ years back 3 SGD = £1. I remember buying Christmas presents to bring back for young family and waiting for a trip out there to get stuff I needed. Now 1.73 SGD/£.
In addition to mentioned above, Marina Bay Gardens and the walking round the bay itself (best walking late at night - its cooler), Boat Quay, Sentosa (yes, cable car was running last time I was out), the WWII war museum on Sentosa, Orchard Road (window shopping - see prices). Taxi from airport best introduction to the city/island state - though SMRT also runs from Changi.
Enjoy.

Re: Singapore recommendations
Treat yourself to a suite or club room at marina bay sands. You can drink enough champagne every night to cover the cost of the room.
Wouldn't stay on Orchard area personally, I'd aim for downtown or raffles area.
Eat in Chinatown

Some of these hotel prices are making me cry! Trying to get interconnecting rooms for the kids is frightening.

Re: Singapore recommendations
I stayed at the Grand Coprhorne which backs on to the river that runs through the centre of Singapore.Things to do and see whilst there.
Changi prison and museum
The Botanical Gardens
Orchard Road for shopping
River cruise at night including dinner.
China Town
Lunch on one of the floating restaurants on the river.
Raffles Hotel and the peanut bar.
A ride on the Big Wheel
Not the cheapest of places but think you will enjoy it

We did the zoo during the day. Train / tube and then a bus ride. Pretty easy to do. Ive stayed at the Furama Waterfront, 10-15 min walk from Chinatown. Nice pool which could be good / cooling for kids.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote:Night zoo for the kids

Re: Singapore recommendations
Got to do raffles. Then you can easily have a walk to the Grand Prix start for a look and then get up to the top of the Marina Bay Hotel, just grab a quick drink and take in the view.
Always wait for the traffic lights! Brilliant place

Re: Singapore recommendations
Stayed at Hotel Jen Tanglin four times ...used to be Traders Hotel. It's part of the Shangri La group,so standards are high. We've never had any complaints. Excellent restaurant, pool etc. not far from the Botanic Gardens. Ten minute walk from Orchard Rd MRT which is the best way to get around Singapore.Bertiebeehead wrote:Cheers for the info, looking at hotel jen orchardgateway, anyone stayed?
Botanic Gardens are free. Gardens by the Bay - best to book tickets online to avoid the queues.

Re: Singapore recommendations
You could probably spend four days at Changi as there is so much to see and do! The latest addition to the airport is The Jewel...only seen it on TV but it looks amazing but I don't think you will have enough time for that. One thing is certain, you won't get bored!mkmel wrote:And take no chewing gum with you as I was told that is banned in Singapore
