Not sure if this has been posted before or is common knowledge (first time I've read it) but it seems we were interested in signing his dad!

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
As much as I dislike Man Utd (we're talking Bar Steward levels here) I don't think that McNeil is what they need or good enough at the minute for what they need.
Besides, unless he's after the brass, he'd be a fool to go there at present time.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
I like McNeil but I don’t think he’s ever going to be a top 4 player, those wingers are usually world class. Whilst United aren’t top 4, those are the sort of wingers they need and the fans expect.
I hope McNeil goes on to the level Dyche seems to think he will.

Yeah not sure what's so out of order on there tbh? Unless some of our fans disagree that United are a bigger club than us?

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
Dwight McNeil is a footballer, comfortable on the ball and always wants it.
Eye for a pass and direct when running with it.
He is always double marked these days as he looks our only threat. (Although we know the strikers always pop up with goals).
He is only 19 and still needs to develop physically. His only weakness is he's not strong enough to always put a cross in from the touchline on the run. His corners are fine.
Attacking midfielder would probably be best for him at the moment until he fills out, but I have no idea why United fans think he will become a left wing back. He doesn't seem to like defending that much and he certainly hasn't got the stamina of a Tyrone Mears to keep running up and down all day.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
Nothing too outrageous in that lot, although the idea he'd be desperate to return to United at the first sign of interest is mildly irksome. It may be true, but it maybe tat having learnt the hard way how difficult it is to make it at United, he's more inclined to make his name before aiming for the top 4.
I'd be flabbergasted if he ends up a full back as some of those comments suggest; they strike me as the ill informed ones. Do still think he'll end up playing more centrally though.

Well I was very pleased to see at least ONE person on there who corrected the "Burnley poached him" (ridiculous) assertion by saying UTD actually let him go. They'll be saying we "poached" Jimmy Dunne too next!

Poached? I don’t think we’d know how to poach an egg never mind a playerWas at our academy when 15 but then poached by Burnley. Featured in 26 premier league games last season at age 18.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
McNeil is a developing talent and possibly our current brightest star but still has a way to go in my opinion. Great on the ball most times, can show good bursts of speed when chasing back but has some peculiar traits. When we lose the ball or give away a throw in etc, he often appears to be daydreaming rather than getting into position as quickly as possible.
He isn't poor that's a fact and has more rights than wrongs but I don't think he would satisfy the Man United diehards. He is no Giggs, Sharp or Kanchelskis and young James looks like he would outshine him week in, week out with his pace and direct running (and diving for free kicks/penalties).
I hope he stays with us and develops his potential.

Bob on that. I know you mentioned stamina at the end there, and I’d have that as one of his two main weaknesses. I’d like to end up getting a full and effective 90 from him. I’m sure SD would too.
Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
Wilks, we might not have anyone who can poach an egg, but we've got someone who makes a good omelette.
Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
The comment a few post down sums it up. Not suitable for them atm. They have far too many “He might be good in a few years” types.

Today you cannot poach any youth players.
Unless released there is a structured fee that you cannot avoid.

Say he should be renamed McNeildinho, to impress the doubters, they also compared him to Mahrez. They do like him......lets hope they can't have him.

Doesn't this thread tent to miss the possiblity that McNeil may actually think that Man U..the club, its fans, its manager and it's players are a bag of hyped up bellends, and that he prefers the turf?

United fan isn't he? Even if he wasn't the chance to probably double your wage and potentially win trophies would be hard to turn down.fatboy47 wrote:Doesn't this thread tent to miss the possiblity that McNeil may actually think that Man U..the club, its fans, its manager and it's players are a bag of hyped up bellends, and that he prefers the turf?

Thinking of Westwood/Barnes sort of player, particularly Westwood that got scrutinised & was one of the 'fall guys' when at Villa.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
I think they may be interested, but i dont think it would be a good move for him.
There arent many wingers who take players on, and cross the ball the way he does, but you need someone in the middle to collect it, and at Man U he'd be passing to fresh air. You could try him in midfield, but he hasnt proved himself there, and it could be a waste of his talent.
If he goes anywhere I hope he goes to someone with a target man, otherwise he could end up getting flack for something beyond his control.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
Odd that some of our fans don't seem to think he's all that. He's obviously at potential stage and there's no guarantees, but there is definitely the potential for him to play for a top side. His stats are up there with the likes of Mount and James, and McNeil doesn't have the luxury of playing with the standard of players they do. He's been involved in 13 goals since breaking into the team (33 games) which is a cracking record for a mid table team if you're an experienced pro, never mind a 19 year old.

Re: Dwight McNeil on Man U forum
Like I said on another thread the other day, it's realistic that he's going to eventually move on, so it wouldn't be so bad if he made the England squad next summer as that would add several more millions to any price tag. At 19/20, in the full England squad in today's crazy prices you've got to be looking near the 50 million mark. Or we keep him for another couple of more seasons and then he does it for England in the World Cup.
