you would have to be heavily addicted to crack if you think Burnley have bid 28 million for 1 player

28m Euros is about £23m. Given that we paid £15m for a player 3 years ago and the Chaiman said we bid £20m for one last year, is it such an outlandish figure ?

That looked good until the last line.IanMcL wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 3:36 pmBurnley have made a €28m bid for Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi according to the Milliyet newspaper.
Per the source, the Premier League outfit have made an offer but Fenerbahce are concerned that selling the striker could harm their title hopes.
The Yellow-Navies board is against selling Muriqi over January but the fee being quoted would break the Super Lig transfer record.
Fenerbahce reportedly want more than €28m for the Kosovo international.
The fee being quoted would help the financially strapped club but they would have just a few days to find a replacement.
The report also claims that Manchester United also want the 1.94m tall striker.

You can understand Bristol City's stance - only 2 points off the playoffs, so keeping him and getting 7 in the summer is probably well worth the gamble.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
We’re in prime position if Bristol want Wells and to lose a player we are desperate for for the sake of a million or two is inexcusable
A few million sounds a lot but that’s the market we’re in and we need to accept that. If McNeil and /or Westwood pick up injuries, we stand to lose a lot more than a few million

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If we try and leave it till summer with Brownhill I think we all know what will happen. Another club will nip in and offer him more money and that will be that.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If they're interested in Wells then I don't see why it can't work both ways.. Wells is £5m now or £8m in the summer after we've triggered his contract extension..
Take your pick.
Take your pick.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
That's what I mean by believable. We won't pay the asking price and could well miss out because of it, sounds on a par with most of our transfer dealings.summitclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 4:47 pmIt says we won't pay the £10m wanted now and want to wait until summer and get him for the £7m release clause figure. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Haggling over £3m, just pay the fee ffs. Corner shop mentality again..
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
A gamble though. Have we not learnt our lesson in situations like this, for the extra 3 million now it might be the difference of staying in this league.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 4:48 pmThis is fine, providing we are confident/close with other players of similar ilk.

In this instance I tend to agree. It's ok thinking we'll get him for 7 mill in the summer, but other clubs could well come in then and drive the fee up past the 10 mill currenly being asked, plus City might even be in the PL so then forget it.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The recent comments by Lee Johnson could be taken as a good indicator of their current position.
https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/foo ... sh-3783035
Namely, they are actively looking to recruit a quality striker, they accept that player trading is a part of their financial model ( even when it comes to players they might like to keep ), they are expecting offers over the week and they are a club that likes to do deals.
£10m is a fair price for Brownhill in this window. Bristol could easily get £7m for him in the Summer and the other £3m accounts for his value to them in a promotion push.
However, I can't see why a cash only price would be part of our thinking. The only reason it might be a factor is if we have it in mind to sell Nahki to another club, which would make no real sense.
On our part the decision making should be fairly straight forward. The primary position we should be looking to fill in this window is central midfield. Taking that into account, the club that can offer us a suitable central midfielder is the one we should sell Nahki to. The only matter up for discussion should be any additional cash going to Bristol City - £3m would suit me.
Given that Bristol City look sparse up front, are definitely in the market for a proven striker and their Captain / best midfielder has a convenient release clause, this really should be one of those " dropped in our laps, the stars aligned, works for everyone, no brainer deals ".
Doing anything else would be very perplexing.
If we wait until the Summer Brownhill will sign for another club at £7m or stay with Bristol if they get promoted. Waiting until Summer to sell Nahki will also devalue him, because strikers always command a hefty price premium in the Winter window - especially on form strikers.
Bringing in a player to fill another position, as part of a layer trade, would leave us under powered in the centre of the pitch and over stocked elsewhere.
Accepting a cash offer for Nahki, because we believe that Rigg could get better value for us by spending that money in the Summer, would defy sound reasoning and experience. Generally speaking you don't double down on disappointment or bet your hopes on someone that has produced consistently poor performances in the transfer market over the course of their entire career.
Rigg had his chance to find us a midfielder in the Summer and we got Drinkwater. If lady luck has thrown Brownhill into our catch net then we should thank her kindly and snap him up as a relatively safe option. The less work Rigg has to do for us in the Summer, if he is still with us, the better.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Brownhill - Wells swap deal seems the most obvious thing to happen, but football is a weird and wonderful world, anything could happen. I feel that today the rumour mill surrounding Burnley has been pretty quiet given the amount of time left in the window. The only thing to really come up is the regurgitated Muriqi rumour with a different figure slapped on the article, and having said that a rather unbelievable figure given that it is Burnley who are involved. This being said , the silence for me has made me feel that there is a signing incoming for Burnley , it’s too quiet for nothing to be happening in my eyes.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If the release clause is triggered then the fee cannot be driven up as Bristol City are bound to accept every offer of £7m so nobody would benefit from offering a penny above that figure.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 5:16 pmIn this instance I tend to agree. Where we could lose out though is that other teams could come in and blow us out the water in terms of wages and/or signing on fee
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Waiting for the £7 million release clause in Summer will be seen as s successful windows negotiations. I can picture the recruitment team patting themselves on the back. Phew £3 million saved. When several clubs meet the clause in Summer and start a bidding war and offer higher wages than now we won’t be expecting it and it will be the usual case of the market being tougher than ever. The market doesn’t stand still for us because we don’t want to pay the going rate. This is why the PL income goes up each year which we happily take. We really should have put more into the scouting network the last few years. If you are not prepared to pay the going rate you need to find talent lower down the leagues ( and secure it) and overseas. At present we are doing neither.

Indeed, we cocked up our euro campaign because we haggled with west brom over JR and didnt secure him. Im sure we would have beaten Olympiakos at home if he'd been playing instead of Vokes, hon hum! Hopefully we will learn our lesson one day.Blackrod wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 6:24 pmWaiting for the £7 million release clause in Summer will be seen as s successful windows negotiations. Anyone excited about Brownhill?
Can’t say I am, really. Certainly not enough to pay £10m if he’s available for £7m in a few months.
Someone tell me I’m wrong and he’s class?
